We are seeking a skilled and proactive engineer to manage and enhance our Kong API Gateway platform deployed across hybrid environments—AKS, EKS and on-premises OpenShift clusters. This role involves designing, deploying, maintaining, and optimizing the API gateway infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and security of API traffic across the enterprise Practical Examples Work with enterprise-scale integration challenges while having the autonomy to redesign and improve systems. Your responsibilities Design and implement Kong API Gateway solutions in AKS, EKS and OpenShift environments. Manage the lifecycle of Kong components including Kong Gateway, Kong Ingress Controller, and plugins. Maintain and develop scripts/pipelines for managing our nfrastructure in both cloud and on-premise, configurations, and gathering metrics Monitor and troubleshoot API traffic, latency, and gateway performance issues. Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Application teams to define API standards, policies, and governance. Ensure secure API exposure through authentication, rate limiting, logging, and auditing. Maintain and upgrade Kong Gateway versions and associated infrastructure components. Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures. You'll become part of the "silent fabric of all data exchange between applications at Rabobank" - enabling engineers to innovate without integration complexity. Experience with Kubernetes (AKS/EKS), Azure DevOps Pipelines and Network. Experience with Openshift and container deployments Proficiency in Bash, Python, Terraform and AzureCLI scripts. Experience with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps. Familiarity with API security best practices (OAuth2, mTLS, JWT). Strong troubleshooting skills in containerized environments. Experience of monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, or Grafana.
