DevOps, Operations & Senior PHP Backend Engineer

The Role

Your top responsibility is keeping Clearvis.io running and improving the DevOps automation behind it. We self-host everything: our infrastructure, networking, internal services, and GitLab itself.

We are a small company, so operations alone is not a full-time job. For the rest of your time, you will work as a senior PHP engineer on our core product.

The scope is broad on purpose. You can only keep up with it if you automate your own work, so we see that as a hard requirement, not a bonus. (Automation won't replace you; it lets you do more. We value your expertise and experience.)

We want you to do better work with AI than you ever could without it. We still value your knowledge, experience, and judgement above the AI's.

As a DevOps-heavy backend engineer, you will help us move more of our core-product development onto AI agents. The goal is to raise our throughput and give the team more time to rest, without lowering quality. In practice, this means you will often **work on our harness rather than on the code directly**: the specs, agent workflows, review gates, tests, and CI that let agents ship changes we can trust.

What You'll Work With

- CI/CD: GitLab, end to end. We are 100% a GitLab shop.

- Workloads: Kubernetes, deployed with FluxCD using external artifacts

- Infrastructure: Ansible for the core infrastructure, our own networking, and self-hosted internal services including GitLab

- Backend: PHP, Symfony (our core app is a long-lived codebase with a modernisation path ahead)

- Harness: Claude Code for now, but the choice will be yours

What We Are Looking For

Must-Have

Mindset

- A very strong drive to automate your own work

- You already use AI tools seriously and want to help build how a team develops with them

- Hungarian at a working level. Our team works in Hungarian, day to day.

DevOps & Operations

- Hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production

- GitLab CI/CD, and GitOps with FluxCD (or comparable experience with Argo CD)

- Ansible for provisioning and configuration management

- Comfort operating your own infrastructure: Linux, networking, DNS, TLS, backups, monitoring, and incident response

Engineering

- Very strong PHP and Symfony knowledge from production systems

- Domain-driven design in practice, not just in theory

- Thriving in a complicated domain and a huge codebase: we are building an ERP system covering everything from stock management to marketing emails

Nice-to-Have

- Experience modernising a large legacy PHP / Symfony codebase

- Running GitLab self-managed

- Building or improving an AI-assisted development workflow (agents, evals, review automation)

- Healthcare or regulated-industry experience

Practical Details

- Location: Budapest HQ, 1043 Budapest, Lorántffy Zsuzsanna u. 15.

- Work model: Hybrid. 3 days in the office, 2 days remote.

- Contract type: Full-time employment.
