Department Overview: The Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies (CommNS) is a university-based hub for collaboration and exchange among faculty, students, and community partners which conducts teaching, research, and outreach to advance the well-being of communities, as well as the civic and nonprofit sectors. The CommNS Communications Team is specifically focused on the outward communication from the CommNS to our stakeholders. Working with the SoHE Communications Team, the CommNS Communications team provides admin, design expertise, and support for the CommNS website and assists with the quarterly newsletter. The CommNS Communications Team also supports some of the CommNS social media and digital publication content. Anticipated Start Date: September 2, 2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 1 Maximum: 10 Schedule: Hours are flexible, mostly independent and project-based work. Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins and workshopping meetings should be expected. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $21.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: Graduate student enrolled at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Preferred experience with technical writing for the web Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Experience with Wordpress and/or WiscWeb platform preferred, but not required. Applicants should have a passion for community and nonprofit studies and issues as well as diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. Attention to detail, copyedit skills, and working knowledge of current trends in the digital information landscape are also beneficial to this role. Position Summary/Job Duties: This role is a member of the CommNS team and takes the lead in ensuring the website and core digital platforms are current and advancing the mission and vision of the CommNS. General Tasks - Attend bi-weekly Communications Team meetings, monthly CommNS Team meetings - As necessary, develop web/digital content in collaboration with other CommNS team members - Support with dissemination, research translations, communication as needed - May be asked to support other aspects of the CommNS Communications and Outreach teams Website Tasks - Maintain the CommNS WordPress site, hosted on the WiscWeb platform, and ensure all plugins, links, and embedded content are live, updated, and functioning correctly - Stay up-to-date on changes to the WiscWeb platform and functionality, UW branding policies, and attending campus-wide trainings and workshops as needed - Monitor the CommNS website Google Analytics data, providing regular updates on website performance and trends - Collaborate with the School of Human Ecology Communications team on cross-site promotion of the CommNS and its affiliated academic department, students, and programs - Review new web content (ie. web page copy, blog posts, event descriptions) for consistency and clarity, and publish changes in a timely manner - Support CommNS Co-Create research team with updating website and strengthening digital presence Physical Demands: None Institutional Statements: Equal Employment Opportunity Statement: UW-Madison is an Equal Employment, Equal Access Employer committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce.
