Job Purpose:
Leads the strategy, performance, and long-term direction of a portfolio of digital products and experiences. Guides Digital Product Owners in shaping product visions and roadmaps, participating directly in business strategy and performance discussions, and leading cross-functional product teams to deliver digital experiences that drive measurable business, customer, operational, and enterprise results.
Leverages and strengthens a product-centric operating model that brings Product, Design, Technology, Analytics, and business partners together around shared outcomes. Uses this model to enable Digital Product Owners to lead with clear accountability, build effective cross-functional teams, and move work from strategy through delivery, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
Portfolio Strategy & Outcomes
- Set the portfolio vision, strategy, measures, and long-term capability direction in line with enterprise and business priorities.
- Take responsibility for overall portfolio performance and ensure product strategies and roadmaps add up to the expected results.
- Turn enterprise goals, business opportunities, customer needs, operating challenges, compliance requirements, and platform needs into a coherent set of digital capabilities and experiences.
- Balance immediate outcomes with modernization, maintenance, stability, compliance, accessibility, technical health, and long-term sustainability.
- Recommend portfolio investments and resolve tradeoffs among cross-functional product teams when demand exceeds capacity.
Business Engagement & Digital Direction
- Develop and direct Digital Product Owners to serve as active leaders in business strategy and planning, accountable for translating desired outcomes into the right product and experience direction.
- Guide business leaders in understanding how digital experiences, data, customer insight, and emerging capabilities can expand what the business is trying to achieve.
- Position Digital Product Owners as the primary point of engagement for capability and experience decisions within their cross-functional product teams.
Portfolio Governance
- Organize each cross-functional product team around clear outcomes and provide the recurring capabilities it needs to carry work from opportunity through sustained performance.
- Give Digital Product Owners room to lead while maintaining clear escalation points, portfolio alignment, and accountability for results.
- Build effective cross-functional teams by assembling the skills and capacity needed from across the organization and establishing shared accountability for operating as a single, autonomous delivery team.
- Resolve dependencies and decisions across cross-functional product teams at the lowest practical level without sacrificing shared capabilities or long-term commitments to short-term priorities.
Product Management & Talent Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop Digital Product Owners and other managers and professional staff, building leadership depth and succession readiness across the portfolio.
- Develop Digital Product Owners who act as trusted business partners, lead across functions, make sound product decisions, and remain accountable for results and long-term value.
- Establish clear Product Owner accountability for product vision, strategy, roadmaps, priorities, sequencing, backlog decisions, and results across the full product lifecycle.
- Set consistent expectations for discovery, research, experimentation, analytics, prioritization, value realization, and ongoing product health without limiting Product Owner autonomy.
- Strengthen the Product Management competency and build needed organizational capabilities through shared practices, coaching, talent development, succession planning, and continuous improvement.
Innovation & Future Capability Development
- Monitor emerging technologies, customer expectations, market shifts, and digital practices and identify where they create practical opportunities for the portfolio.
- Bring forward ideas that can improve results, raise business ambition, or create new value.
- Test and adopt new capabilities through the appropriate cross-functional product teams, with clear ownership from concept through measurement.
- Move successful ideas into durable product roadmaps and operating ownership.
The above statement of duties is not intended to be all inclusive and other duties will be assigned from time to time.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or related professional work experience.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in digital strategy, product management, customer experience, marketing, servicing, analytics, technology-enabled transformation, or a related field.
- 7+ years of leadership experience, including developing leaders, leading cross-functional teams, and building organizational capabilities.
- A record of leading a portfolio of digital products or capabilities and delivering measurable business, customer, operational, strategic, or enterprise results.
- Experience making Product Owners and cross-functional product teams active participants in business strategy, planning, and performance management.
- Experience establishing product-centered operating models, cross-functional product teams, product roadmaps, decision rights, and lifecycle practices.
- Ability to lead through influence and align senior leaders across business, Product, Design, Marketing, Analytics, Architecture, Engineering, Creative, and other functions.
- Strong business and digital judgment, with the ability to shape strategy, challenge assumptions, prioritize investment, manage competing needs, and make decisions that advance enterprise objectives.
- Strong communication, relationship management, organizational leadership, and executive presentation skills.
