Role Title: Digital Systems Engineer

Job Grade: TBC

Location: Comber

Budget Responsibility: None

Reports to: Head of Digital Systems

Travel: Group sites as required

Direct Reports: None

Shift Work: No formal shift pattern

On Call Provision: No formal provision specified

Purpose of Role:

To provide senior technical expertise across Eakin Healthcare's on-premise, cloud and hybrid digital systems, acting as the primary third-line escalation point for complex incidents. The role improves system resilience, security, performance and user experience through effective incident resolution, robust administration, automation, standardisation and the secure delivery of change. Working closely with the Head of Digital Systems and wider Digital Systems team, the role ensures technology services remain reliable, well controlled and aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Measure of Success

Operational Excellence

• Act as the primary third-line escalation point for complex and high-impact incidents, providing first- and second-line cover when required.

Complex incidents are prioritised and resolved effectively; service disruption and escalation backlogs are minimised.

• Lead root cause analysis and deliver permanent resolutions for recurring or systemic issues.

Root causes and corrective actions are documented; repeat incidents reduce and agreed actions are closed.

• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing to Solutions Desk colleagues and business users.

Improved team capability, first-time fix performance and consistent knowledge transfer.

Digital Systems and Infrastructure Management

• Administer, maintain and optimise on-premise, cloud and hybrid systems, including Windows Server, Azure, Microsoft 365 and VMware environments.

Services achieve agreed availability, performance and reliability expectations.

• Manage patching, configuration and lifecycle activity across infrastructure and digital systems.

Patching and lifecycle actions are completed to plan, with risks and exceptions actively managed.

• Maintain accurate technical documentation, configuration records and operational procedures.

Documentation is current, accessible and supports resilient, compliant service delivery.

Security by Design

• Embed security and compliance requirements into systems, changes and improvement initiatives.

Changes are implemented with appropriate security controls and without avoidable control gaps.

• Monitor, investigate and respond to infrastructure and security alerts; identify vulnerabilities and escalate material risks.

Alerts are handled promptly, vulnerabilities are reduced and significant risks are clearly escalated.

Continuous Improvement and Change

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve system stability, automation, standardisation, performance and user experience.

Measurable service improvements are delivered and manual effort or recurring failure is reduced.

• Support the planning and delivery of infrastructure, security, upgrade and digital transformation initiatives.

Technical deliverables are completed safely, on time and with operational readiness confirmed.

Support and Collaboration

Users receive effective support and critical business applications remain operational and supported.

• Work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers, vendors and support partners to resolve issues and deliver improvements.

Stakeholders receive clear communication; third-party actions and dependencies are managed to closure.
