Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director, Annual Giving is accountable for the strategy, integration, and performance of the Foundation’s annual giving portfolio, including direct response, digital campaigns, signature events, community and third-party fundraising, and corporate sponsorship.
The role develops and recommends revenue targets, leads cross-channel campaign planning, and ensures a cohesive donor experience that drives acquisition, retention and long-term value, while generating sustainable annual revenue and building pathways to deeper philanthropic engagement.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy and Execution - 55%
Annual Giving Campaigns - 25%
- Lead the strategy and execution of annual giving programs including grateful patient, employee giving, memorial and tribute giving, direct mail, digital campaigns, monthly giving, and seasonal appeals
- Develop integrated multi-channel campaign plans aligned with Foundation priorities and funding needs
- Lead fundraising strategy for segmentation, targeting, offer development and donor journey planning in partnership with Marketing and Communications
- Monitor and optimize campaign performance including response rates, average gift, retention, acquisition, return on investment and cost per dollar raised
- Build integrated retention and acquisition strategies across all campaigns, identifying opportunities to deepen donor engagement and build pathways to mid-level and major giving
Signature Events & Community Giving Portfolio - 20%
- Lead the development and execution of strategies for the Foundation’s signature events, community giving and third-party fundraising portfolio, in alignment with and endorsed by leadership, with accountability for revenue growth, donor acquisition, engagement and long-term value. Develop and recommend revenue targets, growth strategies and portfolio priorities across events and community initiatives aligned with Foundation strategy and approved annual plans. Ensure alignment between events, annual giving, and major gift pipelines, creating intentional pathways to identify and transition donors with greater philanthropic potential.
- Identify, evaluate and lead the development of new revenue opportunities within the portfolio using donor insights, market trends and performance data to inform recommendation for investment, growth or evolution.
Corporate Sponsorships and Partnerships - 10%
- Develop and lead the execution of the Foundation’s corporate sponsorship strategy across events and campaigns, aligned with overall fundraising strategy and organizational priorities. Establish pricing, packaging, and valuation standards within approved strategy parameters
- Oversee pipeline development, renewal strategies, and long-term partner growth and identify opportunities to deepen corporate philanthropic engagement
- Ensure consistent recognition and reporting in partnership with Marketing and Communications
Program and Team Leadership - 25%
- Integrate annual giving, events, and community fundraising and corporate partnerships into a cohesive portfolio strategy that advances annual revenue and longer-term donor growth.
- Ensure alignment with donor journeys, stewardship strategies, and major gift pathways
- Provide strategic leadership, coaching, and performance management to the Signature Events, Community Giving and Annual Giving teams; establish clear accountabilities and performance expectations, and recruit, onboard, and develop staff as needed.
- Develop and recommend portfolio KPIs and performance targets for CDO approval, and lead the team in delivering against approved goals, timelines and revenue expectations, reporting regularly on progress, risks and outcomes. Develop and manage annual revenue forecasts and operating budgets across the portfolio, in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer and within approved organization plans; monitor performance and ensure accountability, forecasting accuracy, and financial discipline.
- Establish and maintain dashboards and reporting rhythms to track performance against established KPIs (including revenue, participation, cost per dollar raised, and engagement outcomes), using insights to inform continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective operational discipline, quality controls, and risk management across the portfolio, including appropriate SOPs and compliance with regulatory, privacy, receipting, insurance, accessibility, and safety requirements.
- Partner closely with Marketing and Communications, Philanthropy, Finance, and Hospital counterparts to ensure alignment on branding, messaging, stewardship, forecasting, donor strategy and approvals.
- Identify operational, financial, and reputational risks; escalate issues with options and recommendations; lead post-event reviews and implement improvements.
- Represent the Foundation with donors, sponsors, volunteers, community leaders, and media as appropriate, modelling professionalism and Foundation values.
- Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion by designing events and engagement initiatives that are accessible, culturally relevant, and welcoming to diverse communities.
Skills and experience:
- University degree or college diploma in fundraising, events management, marketing, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of progressive fundraising experience including demonstrated success in annual giving/direct response and experience across complementary revenue channels such as events, community fundraising, digital fundraising and corporate sponsorships.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated, multi-channel fundraising strategies, using donor data, segmentation and performance analytics to drive acquisition, retention and revenue growth.
- Proven experience leading the strategy and execution of signature events and community-based fundraising and/or other significant annual revenue programs.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage event and sponsorship budgets, forecasts, and post-event financial reporting.
- Strong leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and managing staff and volunteers.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of briefing materials and presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to use data and KPIs to evaluate performance and guide decision-making.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
Preferred/Assets
- Experience working in a healthcare or hospital foundation environment.
- CFRE designation or demonstrated commitment to professional fundraising education is an asset.

Work environment
- Hybrid work arrangement with flexibility to work on-site and remotely, in line with Foundation policy.
- Evening or weekend work may be required to support Foundation activities. Staff may be required to work at the Foundation office or hospital sites within York Region.
- Event-day work may require early mornings, evenings, or weekends; lifting and on-site coordination as needed.
