This role is responsible for modernizing and rationalizing applications, strengthening enterprise architecture, advancing data governance, and enabling the organization to become more information-driven in support of Operation Smile’s mission and long-term strategic priorities. The Director will partner closely with business leaders, IT colleagues, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and user-focused solutions that improve operational efficiency, strengthen decision-making, and support global program growth. The role requires a leader who can balance strategy and execution, translate organizational needs into practical technology solutions, and build trusted relationships across a decentralized global nonprofit environment. Essential Functions: Lead the strategy, planning, delivery, and ongoing support of Operation Smile’s enterprise application portfolio, including internally developed solutions, SaaS platforms, integrations, and business-critical systems. Develop and maintain an enterprise architecture roadmap that simplifies the technology footprint, reduces duplication, improves integration, and supports scalable global operations. Partner with business leaders to understand operational needs, prioritize technology investments, and translate business requirements into practical, secure, and sustainable solutions. Establish and lead application development standards, software development lifecycle practices, solution design patterns, documentation expectations, testing practices, and deployment governance. Oversee data architecture, data integration, data quality, data governance, reporting, and analytics capabilities to support consistent enterprise information and trusted decision-making. Advance the organization’s use of analytics and business intelligence tools, including Power BI and related Microsoft data platforms, to improve visibility into strategic, operational, financial, and programmatic performance. Collaborate with data owners and stewards to define enterprise data domains, common definitions, reporting standards, and the processes required to maintain a reliable “single version of the truth.” Lead application rationalization, integration planning, vendor evaluation, and platform selection efforts in partnership with IT leadership, procurement, finance, and business stakeholders. Manage vendor and partner relationships related to application development, architecture, data platforms, integration, analytics, and managed services. Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for direct reports and matrixed project resources, fostering a culture of accountability, service, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Develop resource plans, project estimates, budgets, and capacity forecasts for application, architecture, data, and analytics initiatives. Ensure that applications, integrations, and data solutions comply with applicable security, privacy, regulatory, and organizational policy requirements. Support IT governance by providing clear recommendations, risks, options, status updates, and decision materials for leadership review. Stay current on emerging technologies, nonprofit technology trends, cloud platforms, artificial intelligence, automation, analytics, and modern development practices; recommend opportunities where they can responsibly advance Operation Smile’s mission. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Minimum of 10 years of progressive technology experience, including significant experience in application development, enterprise architecture, systems integration, data platforms, reporting, or analytics. Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing technical teams, vendors, project teams, or cross-functional technology initiatives. Demonstrated experience leading enterprise application strategy, application modernization, platform rationalization, and technology roadmap development. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, Agile or iterative delivery methods, DevOps concepts, integration patterns, APIs, cloud-based platforms, and enterprise application support models. Experience with data architecture, data governance, data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics tools, and reporting platforms. Experience working with Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, SharePoint, SQL Server, or comparable enterprise technology platforms preferred. Strong understanding of cybersecurity, privacy, access control, data protection, and technology risk management principles. Experience managing vendor relationships, contracts, budgets, project plans, and competing priorities. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work effectively across cultures, time zones, departments, and levels of leadership in a global nonprofit environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting global operations, decentralized teams, or international stakeholders. Experience establishing data governance programs, enterprise analytics functions, or enterprise data warehouse/lakehouse environments. Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL, TOGAF, Azure, Power BI, Agile/Scrum, data governance, or related credentials. Experience supporting an enterprise where the majority of application functionality is delivered through SaaS applications. Compensation: Operation Smile is committed to pay transparency. The anticipated salary range for this position is - $90,000 to $115,000 - which may vary slightly based on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Why Operation Smile?
