As we scale to serve millions of members, the reliability, flexibility, and intelligence of these systems directly shape revenue, conversion, and customer trust. As Director of Engineering for Commerce , you will be the single engineering DRI for the end-to-end commerce platform spanning catalog, pricing, promotions, payments, and checkout. You'll lead the teams and managers building the foundational systems that every customer transaction depends on, owning the technical vision, architecture, and delivery for a complex, high-throughput domain where correctness and uptime are non-negotiable. You'll partner closely with product, design, data, finance, Pharmacy, Care, and operations leaders to deliver a fast, trustworthy, conversion-optimized commerce experience, and you'll set the multi-year technical and organizational strategy that lets this platform scale. You Will: Lead, coach, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Serve as the single engineering DRI for Commerce owning technical vision, strategy, and execution across catalog, pricing, promotions, payments, and checkout. Drive the vision and execution of the next-generation commerce platform leading the shift to a rich, durable catalog domain model Define and deliver the engineering roadmap in partnership with product and design — balancing innovation, reliability, scalability, and quality across the commerce domain. Champion clear domain boundaries and enforced contracts — moving the organization off direct cross-domain database access and toward integration through APIs and published events. Lead the team's transition to an AI-first engineering culture and spec-driven development Scale architecture and systems with long-term growth and performance in mind, championing evolutionary architecture so the platform stays adaptable as the business and product surface area expand. Oversee platform architecture for scalability, reliability, security, and compliance — with particular rigor for payments and financially sensitive transactions. Drive alignment across squads and cross-functional partners to deliver key initiatives while managing competing priorities and trade-offs between speed, technical debt, and innovation. Partner with data and analytics teams to make commerce smarter — improving pricing, promotion, and checkout experiences that increase conversion and retention. Mentor and develop engineering leaders, with a focus on succession planning, leadership growth, and building a strong technical bench. Own staffing and organizational strategy — hiring, headcount planning, and structuring teams to match the evolving needs of the Commerce domain. Represent engineering in cross-functional and executive-level forums, translating strategy, status, and trade-offs for senior stakeholders and influencing key business decisions. You Have: 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years leading multiple teams or organizations in high-growth environments. Proven success leading cross-functional product engineering teams and owning end-to-end consumer experiences. Experience in health tech, e-commerce, or subscription-based platforms preferred. Strong technical background with understanding of modern web and service architectures (Node.js, GraphQL, React, TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes). Expertise in building scalable, secure, and compliant systems handling clinical or health-related data. Experience integrating third-party data sources, APIs, and device platforms (labs, wearables, fulfillment). Ability to define and execute technical roadmaps aligned with product vision and business outcomes. Strong communication skills and executive presence — able to translate between technical and business stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering talent. Strategic thinker with a bias for action and passion for building user-centric, data-driven health experiences.
