We are looking for an exceptional Director of Engineering to lead and develop a talented team of scientists, engineers, and technicians developing the next generation of products and technology for Honeywell Aerospace’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) business. You will leverage your technical experience and skills to guide your team to investigate and solve challenging technical problems as you develop and apply to UAS and AAM platforms next-generation avionics, actuation, flight control, environmental control, propulsion, and other technologies and products. You will use your leadership skills to motivate and guide teams that are designing new or modifying existing products, parts, and processes. Through extensive collaboration with customers and broader engineering teams, you will balance team workload and drive exceptional team performance with high impact for the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide, coach, and challenge engineering teams to effectively solve complex engineering problems.
• Champion team engagement and guide self-directed Agile teams to continuously improve R&D effectiveness and velocity.
• Accelerate innovation and growth while leading a team of talented, experienced managers, engineers, scientists and technicians
• Partner with customers, technology strategists, offering managers, and broader engineering teams to guide and prioritize development efforts, ensure availability and development of appropriate resources and skills, and drive business growth.
• Working with Sales, Program Management, and Portfolio Management, truly understand the “why” of customer business needs, and translate these into concrete development plans. Lead execution of these plans to delight customers, motivate the team, and achieve business objectives.
• Drive organic and inorganic growth by working closely with Advanced Technology, Strategic Marketing, Honeywell Ventures, and Technical Strategy organizations to identify and champion next growth areas, and then leading technical teams to address these areas.

YOU MUST HAVE

• Bachelor’s Degree in science, engineering or related technical field, significant experience in engineering or R&D
• 15+ years overall engineering/R&D experience
• Demonstrated leadership skills and achievements
• Due to our government contracts, all applicants must be US Citizens.

WE VALUE

• Master’s or PhD degree in science, engineering or related technical field
• Experience with avionics, communications, flight control, actuation, and/or propulsion technologies and markets
• Experience with safety standards, processes, and personnel
• Experience with aviation airworthiness certification processes and terminology
• Technical management experience.
• Entrepreneurial experience in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable developing networks & building relationships
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Reliable and trustworthy with highest ethical standards
• Flexible to work across cultures and time zones
• Significant project or line management experience
• Significant experience in engineering or related field
• Understanding of industry standards and security practices
• Experience in an Agile development environment
• Ability to lead, motivate, develop and mentor others
• Experience in the developement and certification of Advanced Air Mobility vehicles
