Job Summary

The Director of Engineering & Development for Distributed Generation within our Commercial Markets Division provides strategic leadership and oversight of the project engineering and development function and team. This role establishes departmental priorities and standards across team management, tools and systems, project scope development, engineering execution, budget estimating, scheduling, quality, risk management, and workflow.

Key components of this role include:

  • Management: Strategic leadership and management of the DG team, including Project Development Engineers; oversight of resource planning, project priorities, workflows, day-to-day operations, training and mentoring, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Project Engineering & Development: Direct, facilitate, and/or review site survey [audit] analysis, conceptual project designs, estimating, schedules, product specifications, code research and application, and the preparation of proposal documents.

An effective SitelogIQ Director of Engineering & Development will partner with leaders across Sales, Operations, and Project Management and represent the team and its technical solutions to clients and their technical staff. They will oversee program and project development milestones to deliver timely, comprehensive proposals that clearly communicate project intentions and solutions while meeting SitelogIQ financial and risk metrics. SitelogIQ team members are expected to share knowledge with others by serving as a constant contributor, trainer, mentor, and resource.

Target Salary: $145,000 - $180,000 dependent on experience.

Director, Engineering & Development Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and mentorship to the team as they develop and produce DG project designs and proposals.
  • Oversee the internal proposal queue, resource allocation, team assignments, risk review process, and client commitments.
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Engineering & Development and Sales teams to determine customers’ specific technical requirements, project scope, definition of work, and product feature needs.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards for project designs, submittals, and permitting packages.
  • Lead the development of new processes, tools, and workflows and the continuous improvement of existing practices.
  • Partner with Sales to define customers’ technical requirements, project scope, definition of work, and product or system feature needs.
  • Participate in site-surveys, pre-bid and pre-construction meetings as needed; noting that SitelogIQ’s commercial markets team does have an Assessment team devoted to supporting all types of site-surveys including DG projects.
  • Maintain all internal documentation in a collaborative file sharing and storage environment.
  • Lead technical strategy and support for large RFP and business development opportunities.
  • Participate in quality control review of peer project development team
  • Ensure effective coordination of installation details with Project Managers and Account Executives and support field installation when needed.
  • Oversee the evaluation of site audits and selection of product solutions that provide clients with the optimal balance of functionality, long-term operating expense, aesthetics, and constructability.
  • Establish quality control standards and review submittal packages (product data sheets; bill of materials; standard and customer drawings; layout and connection detail drawings; return on investment analysis; etc.) for content accuracy and alignment with proposal goals.
  • Review and markup drawings for typical product applications
  • Review and present DG solution proposals
  • Ensure local jurisdiction code compliance research is completed and incorporated into project solutions.
  • Partner with construction leaders to establish accurate project cost estimates.
  • Establish design intent and specifications and ensure the team consistently meets them.
  • Provide technical leadership for large RFP and business development opportunities, including the creation of detailed submittal packages.
  • Coordinate installation details with Project Managers and Account Executives. Support field installation when needed
  • Lead quality control reviews of projects
  • Any, and all ad hoc reporting, requests or other tasks deemed

      Director, Engineering & Development Requirements & Qualifications:

      • Industry experience and credentials required:
        • At least 10 years of progressive experience in engineering, project development, or a related field.
        • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and developing a team.
      • Active Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to obtain additional licenses through comity as required.
      • Experience understanding audit and field survey data and translating that into design documents and drawings.
      • Experience performing sales liaison and client collaboration in energy or related industries.
      • Strong understanding of DG systems and corresponding customer requirements.
      • Excellent understanding of financial business principles.
      • Adept at project scheduling, task definition and effort estimation.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept through completion.
      • Strong design evaluation, documentation writing skills, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
      • Professional communication and presentation skills.
      • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision under time sensitive deadlines.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
      • Experience with file sharing, document management and collaboration tools.

          Work Environment and Physical Requirements

          This position operates in both office and field settings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone, and keyboard. May regularly need to lift up to 20 lbs., unassisted. Travel will be required for site assessments and customer presentations.
