The Director of Finance, Oceania (DOF, Oceania) provides strategic financial leadership and oversight across The Nature Conservancy's Oceania region, including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. The role partners closely with Business Unit Leads, Finance & Operations teams, and regional leadership to drive financial sustainability, strong stewardship of resources, effective decision-making, and achievement of conservation priorities across the region.

The DOF, Oceania is responsible for leading regional finance strategies, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, risk management, and financial governance across the Oceania portfolio. The role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and Boards, ensuring that financial resources are managed effectively, risks are identified and mitigated, and organizational priorities are supported by sound financial decision-making.

Working closely with Business Unit leadership, Development, Conservation, Operations, and global finance teams, the DOF, Oceania promotes consistency in financial management practices, strengthens organizational effectiveness, and ensures compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and statutory obligations. The position also provides leadership and direction to Finance personnel across Oceania and contributes to regional and global initiatives that advance TNC's mission and strategic objectives.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Significant experience in accounting, financial management, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial analysis
  • Experience providing strategic financial advice and business partnering support to senior leaders.
  • Experience developing and overseeing complex budgets and long-term financial plans.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and working across multiple countries or jurisdictions.
  • Experience leading and developing finance professionals.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities, projects, and organizational initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams across multiple organizational levels.
  • Experience interpreting and applying financial policies, regulatory requirements, and internal control
  • Experience developing, managing and implementing multiple projects and strategic goals;
  • Fluent English is required for programs outside the US.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated.
  • Effective training skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including presentations, conversations, and documents.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience advising executive leaders and Boards on financial and strategic matters.
  • Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
  • Proficiency in working independently as well as jointly with colleagues on a team.
  • Accounting degree and CPA certification.
  • Non-profit GAAP accounting experience and/or understanding of best practices in non-profit management.
