Director of IT Strategy - Remote

Job Description
Full-time remote: Because this role involves a combination of independent and collaborative work, this position can be conducted 100% remotely with 25 percent travel to major BAE locations.

The Director, IT Strategy serves as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to the Vice President of IT & Sector Information & Digital Officer (SIDO) for Electronic Systems. The role operates at the intersection of business strategy, technology, investment and execution.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned technology leader with broad enterprise IT experience, strong business acumen and the judgment to operate effectively with senior executives. This individual will bring sufficient technical and architecture depth to engage credibly with technology leaders, challenge assumptions and connect business priorities to practical technology strategies and outcomes.

This is not a traditional enterprise architect or PMO role. It is a senior individual-contributor position for an experienced technology professional who can connect strategy, investment, technology, organizational change and execution.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Advisor:

• Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the VP of IT & SIDO on business, technology, organizational and operational priorities.
• Translate Electronic Systems business priorities into clear IT and digital strategies, objectives and investment priorities.
• Represent the VP of IT & SIDO in meetings and forums when appropriate, communicating established direction and ensuring alignment and follow-through; final executive decisions remain with the VP of IT & SIDO.
• Anticipate emerging issues, identify cross-functional dependencies and frame complex topics for executive discussion and decision.
• Establish and manage an effective leadership operating rhythm across ES IT, keeping priorities, commitments, risks and decisions visible and actionable.

IT Strategy & Technology Leadership:

• Partner with architecture, infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, data, AI and digital leaders to evaluate technology strategies, opportunities and tradeoffs.
• Apply broad enterprise architecture knowledge and technical experience to challenge assumptions, identify dependencies and ensure technology decisions support long-term business objectives, without owning the architecture function.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends and help determine their relevance and potential value to Electronic Systems.
• Connect enterprise technology direction with sector business requirements and identify opportunities for reuse, simplification, standardization and modernization.
• Facilitate strategic planning and development of multi-year technology roadmaps.

Business, Investment & Value Realization:

• Help ensure IT investments are aligned to the highest-value business outcomes and Electronic Systems priorities.
• Frame major technology investments, business cases, strategic choices and tradeoffs for executive review.
• Identify opportunities where technology, data, automation and AI can improve productivity, accelerate growth and strengthen execution.
• Provide an enterprise perspective across competing priorities and help align resources and investments to strategy.
• Establish a strong focus on value realization by connecting IT strategy and investment to measurable business outcomes.

Executive Engagement & Communications:

• Develop clear, concise executive-level communications, presentations, strategy materials and decision papers.
• Translate complex technology topics into business implications, choices and recommendations for senior leaders.
• Build strong relationships across Electronic Systems, Enterprise IT and other BAE Systems organizations.
• Facilitate executive discussions and working sessions on complex or cross-functional issues.

Organizational Effectiveness & Change:

• Help strengthen the effectiveness of the ES IT leadership team and broader organization.
• Drive alignment, accountability and follow-through on major strategic initiatives.
• Partner with leaders on organizational change, stakeholder engagement and adoption of new technologies and ways of working.
• Help develop a mature organizational change management capability, with the potential to assume leadership responsibility for a people/change management team as the capability evolves.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Ability to obtain Secret Clearance
• Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of experience
• Significant progressive leadership experience across enterprise information technology, digital transformation or related technology disciplines.
• Broad understanding of enterprise IT architecture, infrastructure, cloud, applications, cybersecurity, data, AI and modern digital technologies.
• Demonstrated experience developing technology strategy and translating business priorities into technology roadmaps and investment decisions.
• Experience operating with senior executives and navigating complex, matrixed organizations.
• Strong business and financial acumen, including experience evaluating technology investments, priorities, tradeoffs and value realization.
• Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and drive execution without direct organizational authority.
• Exceptional executive communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
• Strong judgment, discretion and ability to operate effectively with sensitive or confidential information.
• Ability to move comfortably between strategic discussions and detailed technology or execution issues.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Experience within aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, engineering or another complex technology-intensive environment.
• Experience supporting large-scale business, technology or digital transformation.
• Experience with organizational change management and technology adoption.
• Experience working within a federated or shared-services technology operating model.
• Previous experience as a senior IT leader, technology strategist, enterprise architect, or transformation leader.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
