Job Description: The Director of Place Based Investments oversees place-based investments across Intermountain Health's service areas and reports to the VP of Community Health with a dotted line to the Chief Investment Officer. This leader engages with community leaders and Intermountain Health executives, including borrowers, applicants, and various external organizations. The leader manages Intermountain Health's place-based investment program, working with departments like System Treasury, Legal, Philanthropy, Community Health, and Finance to provide strategic direction. This role is preferably based within the Intermountain market areas (Utah – preferably in the Salt Lake area, ID, NV, MT or CO) to strengthen collaboration, visibility, and alignment with enterprise initiatives. We may consider a remote model with monthly travel to Utah required. Essential Functions Designs and implements an effective place-based investment program that is focused on supporting Intermountain's initiatives and priorities to address social determinants contributing to poor health. Designs a strategic framework to ensure alignment with system and geographic Community Health Needs Assessments and system priorities and key performance indicators related to health improvement. Stays current with industry best practices and innovations around place-based investing as a tool for community health improvement. Develops strategies and tools to assess the risk and return on investment for place-based investing. Activates the community health team and geographic leaders around sourcing opportunities. Stays current with legal, tax, accounting, investment, and regulatory requirements associated with place-based investing; complies with these requirements; and protects the reputation and financial assets of Intermountain allocated for place-based investing. In collaboration with marketing or communications, develops communication and educational materials that support place-based investment activities and promotes and communicates Intermountain’s investment in our communities through place-based investing. Upholds the best interests of Intermountain by adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct and acting consistent with the values and mission of Intermountain. Establishes partnerships with other funding or investing organizations within Intermountain Health's service area and nationally. Seeks opportunities to increase the knowledge of Intermountain's management and system and local boards regarding Intermountain's place-based investment initiatives. Builds a sourcing pipeline and identifies investments for consideration that will provide both a financial return and a social determinant of health impact, improving the health and well-being of the community. Builds and maintains a strong network of local place-based investing partners, including financial institutions and Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFI), and manages the application process. Coordinates requests and applications for investment funds by external organizations. Reviews proposals and credit memos and oversees due diligence for recommended investments. Develops new place-based investment strategies and policy initiatives to guide the program. Serves as staff liaison and support for governance activities and approvals as needed. Skills Fund Management Program Design Regulatory Knowledge Network Development Ethics Investment Sourcing Educational Outreach Communication Philanthropy Decision Making Community Health Improvement and Outreach Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, or accounting required. Master's Degree is preferred. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified. Demonstrated track record of financial and communication skills, partnership development, and working successfully with community-based organizations. Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills and financial skills. Demonstrated ability to work closely with diverse groups of internal and external constituents to foster partnerships and to achieve program goals within a large, diverse organization. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and commitment to provide high-quality services. Demonstrate strategic thinking skills with the ability to consider long-term goals and assess options and their implications. Program Design Program Evaluation Preferred Qualifications Five years prior experience in a leadership role within a matrixed organization, with frequent interactions with senior leaders and community health improvement Prior leadership experience in banking and/or finance. Ability to mobilize diverse groups with varied interests towards the achievement of specific organizational goals. Demonstrated experience leading a portfolio dedicated to impact investing with successful return rates. Experience in and knowledge of investment strategies. Ten years of experience in place-based investment work. Physical Requirements Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs. Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc. May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts. For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
