About the Role We are seeking an accomplished Director of Rehabilitation Research to provide strategic and scientific leadership for a nationally recognized rehabilitation research program, with a primary focus on spinal cord injury (SCI) . This executive-level leader will oversee a portfolio of clinical and translational research initiatives while maintaining an active research program of their own. The Director will shape the strategic direction of rehabilitation research, develop new research initiatives, secure external funding, mentor investigators and research staff, and build collaborative relationships with physicians, clinicians, academic institutions, and national research organizations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong national reputation in rehabilitation research, a proven record of federal research funding, and a substantial body of peer-reviewed scientific publications. Key Responsibilities Lead the overall rehabilitation research program and establish short- and long-term strategic priorities. Provide scientific and strategic leadership for the Spinal Cord Injury research portfolio. Maintain an active program of rehabilitation research. Develop major research initiatives and identify opportunities for federal and other external funding. Lead and mentor investigators, research staff, and emerging research leaders. Support research activities conducted by physicians, investigators, and clinical staff. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with academic, clinical, governmental, professional, and community organizations. Advise executive leadership on research strategy, priorities, opportunities, and partnerships. Represent the organization and its research mission with high-profile public and private agencies and professional organizations. Contribute to fundraising efforts and development strategies that support research programs. Promote high-quality research, scientific publications, innovation, and collaboration. Oversee research-related projects, resources, and priorities within established organizational and budgetary guidelines. Foster an environment that supports professional development, mentorship, collaboration, and scientific excellence. Required Qualifications Medical Doctorate (MD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Minimum of 7 years of previous administrative experience as a program director, department head, and/or principal investigator. Strong or outstanding national reputation in medical rehabilitation research. Proven track record of obtaining federal funding for research. Substantial record of peer-reviewed scientific publications. Strong knowledge of funding sources relevant to rehabilitation research. Extensive experience with clinical and translational research. Strong knowledge of research design, data analysis, and scientific methodology. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships. Strong strategic planning and organizational development skills. Experience leading and mentoring investigators and research staff. Strong executive communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience managing scientific research programs and portfolios. Strong budget, resource, and project management capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with physicians, clinicians, researchers, executives, academic partners, and external organizations.
