The Director of Staff Development designs, builds and leads a talent development system that fully integrates professional competencies and spiritual formation across our global ministry. Using talent platforms and practices, this role creates personalized learning paths, development plans, and career structures that enable supervisors and staff to
effectively develop their teams and themselves, equipping FCA staff worldwide for long-term effectiveness, internal mobility, and Christ-centered impact -- raising up more workers for the harvest field.
MINISTERIAL DUTIES
These responsibilities are critical to the FCA mission and this position plays a vital role in our ministry. FCA expects all functions and responsibilities outlined below to be carried out with a heart surrendered to serving God as a form of worship.
- Agree with, and abide by, FCA's Christian Community Statement.
- Follow a spiritual rhythm including daily prayer and Bible study to seek the Lord's will for FCA.
- Lead, conduct and provide spiritual leadership for staff, volunteers, coaches and athletes through prayer, Bible study, worship and living by example so they are equipped to serve others.
- Connect to and participate in a local church through worship and weekly involvement.
- Conduct yourself in a manner that affirms biblical standards of conduct in accordance with FCA's Christian beliefs (see FCA's Christian Community Statement) at all times.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional Development
- Own the design, communication, and ongoing refinement of professional development pathways for staff at all levels so that growth opportunities are clear and accessible.
- Equip staff with the practical skills, leadership competencies, and ministry practices required for sustained effectiveness and long-term contribution to the mission.
- Drive strategic external partnerships and continuously adapt development offerings to ensure they remain relevant to the organization's evolving needs.
Role - Based Development
- Own the full strategy, design, and execution of role-based, long-term development programs that strengthen performance across the organization.
- Partner with the Director of Training to build high-impact development experiences and training that result in greater measurable effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain organization-wide standards and practical resources that support accurate "right person, right seat" role clarity and discernment.
Onboarding
- Lead seamless, well-coordinated handoffs with recruiting so that every new hire is fully prepared and positioned for immediate, confident impact.
- Own the strategy, design, and consistent execution of role-based onboarding experiences that accelerate readiness across the organization.
Executive Development
- Own FCA's Executive Development Program, ensuring it effectively serves both senior leaders and high-potential emerging leaders.
- Drive the creation, refinement, and regional deployment of leadership curriculum tailored to the unique demands of executive-level ministry.
- Build, launch, and sustain formal coaching programs that provide targeted support for leaders at key levels of the organization.
Spiritual Development Integration
- Own the deployment strategy of Christ-centered leadership development and spiritual formation across FCA, in partnership with Ministry Advancement on resource creation.
- Intentionally embed spiritual growth and discipleship practices into every stage of the staff development journey.
- Set, communicate, and uphold clear standards for healthy spiritual leadership that apply to Directors and all leaders above that level.
Travel
- An estimated 15% may be required for occasional in-person collaboration with team member and partners across the ministry.
EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of progressive experience designing and leading enterprise-wide talent development, learning, or organizational development systems, ideally within a large, complex, or global organization.
- Proven track record building and scaling modern learning platforms and talent development systems that drive personalized learning paths, internal mobility, and measurable career growth (Auzmor experience strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated success integrating professional competency development with values-based, character, or spiritual formation in a ministry, nonprofit, or faith-based context.
- Experience creating and deploying global or multi-region development frameworks, executive leadership programs, and onboarding systems that deliver clear, quantifiable impact on readiness and performance.
- Required degree: Equivalent Professional Experience or Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, HR, Adult Learning, I-O Psychology, Theology/Ministry, or a related field.
- Preferred degree: Master's degree in Organizational Development, Adult Learning, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or related field. Executive coaching certification or equivalent highly desirable.
