Greater Good Charities is a 501(c)(3) global nonprofit organization that works to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good. To date, we have provided over $1B in aid, expertise, and funding in 121 countries in support of this mission.

Position Overview:

The Director of Supply Chain is a high-impact, hands-on operational leader and strategic troubleshooter. Operating at the intersection of supply chain execution, data analytics, and program strategy, this role is built to drive rapid operational optimization across GGC's global distribution engine.

You will lead the end-to-end movement of donated (in-kind) and procured goods, balancing immediate operational pragmatism with long-term systems modernization. Embedded within a data-driven programmatic architecture that prioritizes evidence for decision-making, you will design agile inventory frameworks, establish demand forecasting, and enforce supply chain best practices tailored for non-governmental organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Agile Inventory Management & Demand Planning

  • Design, implement, and maintain responsive demand planning models that seamlessly bridge internal program planning and donor pipelines with global suppliers, downstream partner capacities, and community needs.
  • Establish agile inventory control protocols to ensure real-time visibility, optimize stock rotation, minimize warehousing overhead, and mitigate product expiration risks.
  • Structure and manage a pre-positioned Disaster Response Reserve, ensuring rapid deployment capability during acute emergency responses without disrupting ongoing core distribution.

2. End-to-End Supply Chain Execution (70% US / 30% International)

  • Direct the full operational lifecycle of goods: donor offer matching, multi-modal freight contracting (TL, LTL, Ocean, Air), field receiving, inventory verification, distribution, and financial closeout.
  • US Domestic Logistics (70%): Oversee recipient partner networks and warehouse operations, establishing industry best practices for safety, pest control, receiving, capacity planning, and field training.
  • European & International Operations (30%): Direct cross-border logistics, import/export requirements, and customs compliance for international shipments, ensuring specialized frameworks like the EU Goods program meet regional standards.
  • European Capacity Expansion Strategy: Develop and execute a strategic capacity growth plan to absorb, manage, and scale corporate and in-kind donations across Europe through a robust, sustainable supply chain framework.
  • Own carrier and broker relationships, negotiating competitive rates, monitoring SLAs, and managing detention, damage, and freight claims.

3. Systems Integration, Data Architecture & Decision Intelligence

  • Serve as the operational business owner for GGC’s logistics tech stack (Salesforce, NetSuite ERP, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and WMS), maximizing system efficiency and tool interconnectivity to deliver streamlined procedures, reduced cycle times, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Eliminate manual data re-keying by standardizing data intake forms, partner reporting portals, and digital field submissions, leveraging lightweight, right-sized AI-powered solutions to automate document processing and field data capture.
  • Transform raw supply chain and field data into actionable intelligence, building real-time executive dashboards tracking key operational metrics (e.g., report timeliness, cycle times, accept/decline rates, pledged vs. received accuracy, and net landed impact).

4. Process Troubleshooting & Pragmatic SOP Optimization

  • Act as a pragmatic troubleshooter across the supply chain, identifying bottlenecks, resolving operational friction, and bridging gaps between field realities and formal policy.
  • Develop, consolidate, and enforce unified Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for movement tracking, inventory control, and bill of lading (BOL) submission pathways.
  • Balance practical field solutions with necessary system upgrades, ensuring new workflows remain user-friendly for field partners while adhering to strict institutional controls.

5. Financial Reconciliation & Compliance Governance

  • Partner with Finance to ensure 100% alignment between physical inventory movement, field receipt documentation, and the general ledger.
  • Streamline the financial closeout and reconciliation cycle time for in-kind shipments and handling fee invoices.
  • Maintain IRS-ready documentation (Form 990 / Form 8282 standards), enforce strict no-resale policies, manage recall protocols, and support internal and external financial/programmatic audits.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions regulations (EAR/OFAC) for international shipments, including denied-party screening of partners, vendors, and recipients.

6. Partner Capacity Building

  • Establish performance criteria, quality scorecards, and audit frameworks for domestic and international distribution partners, implementing systematic approaches to collect, analyze, and act upon audit findings.
  • Create user-friendly onboarding toolkits, digital training modules, and technical support pathways for field teams, program focal points, and community distribution networks.
  • Recommend corrective action protocols (probation, suspension, or offboarding) when partner compliance or safety standards are compromised.

7. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build, mentor, and direct the global logistics team, establishing a clear staffing model and career progression pathways.
  • Serve as a collaborative team player and primary operational liaison between Logistics, Programs, Finance, Operations, and Corporate Relations, translating complex supply chain data into strategic recommendations for C-Suite leadership.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field required (Master’s degree a plus).
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in global supply chain and logistics management.
  • Professional certification such as APICS/ASCM CSCP or CPIM, ISM CPSM, or Certified Humanitarian Logistician (CHL) strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record as a hands-on "troubleshooter" capable of making swift, practical decisions in fast-paced NGO or humanitarian environments.
  • Strong team-building skills with a highly collaborative approach to cross-departmental work.
  • Demonstrated experience with ERPs (NetSuite), CRMs (Salesforce), and WMS platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to bridge everyday operational tools (e.g., spreadsheets, Smartsheet) by embedding them into enterprise systems and AI-assisted workflows to boost efficiency and user adoption.
  • Expertise in US freight and warehousing networks (70%), combined with practical knowledge of international cross-border logistics, customs, and international trade compliance (30%).
  • Solid understanding of inventory valuation, audit readiness, financial reconciliation, and managing donor-restricted goods.
  • High initiative and strategic thinking, with the ability to balance immediate operational field demands with long-term organizational transformation.
  • Commitment to the mission of Greater Good Charities.
