As Director of Video, Access Control, and Card Services (VACCS), a role within University IT (UIT) at Stanford, you will lead the organization that helps keep the campus secure and its community connected — managing access to buildings and rooms and providing video surveillance for campus facilities, while supporting campus transactions, meal plans, and ID card issuance for the campus community. Reporting to the Senior Director of IT Facilities Infrastructure & Resilience (IT FIRe), you'll shape a highly visible service portfolio at one of the world's leading research universities, working alongside technologists and service professionals who take pride in supporting the Stanford community. VACCS manages access control at building entrances, access doors, turnstiles, and elevators campus-wide, secures critical facilities, supports campus video-surveillance systems, manages the campus transaction system supporting meal plans, purchasing at on-campus cafes and stores, as well as managing the issuance and support of campus identification cards, both physical and mobile. The Director leads all four functional areas within the VACCS organization: access control, video operations, transaction systems, and the campus card office. Access control is leveraged to provide technology support for services such as key management and integrations with scheduling and identity systems. The campus card office supports ID card services, covering card production, printing technology, card databases, mobile issuance, and end-user integration support. VACCS also designs and supports the core technology platforms for video and card access control systems to support campus security and strengthen institutional capabilities. As business owner for the full portfolio, the Director is accountable for its strategic direction, financial health, staff leadership, and day-to-day service quality, with responsibilities spanning relationship management, service delivery, campus operations, and innovation acceleration. Core Responsibilities Platform Design and Innovation Oversee the design and support of core technology platforms for video and card access control systems, supporting campus security and strengthening institutional capabilities. Manage relationships with clients, vendors, and campus partners, and drive service delivery excellence across VACCS platforms. Guide campus operations for access control and video systems, and accelerate innovation to meet evolving security and technology needs. Client Service and Satisfaction Lead client engagement strategies and regularly engage with clients to understand their needs and expectations. Set and monitor clear performance standards and KPIs across the VACCS portfolio, monitoring performance and addressing issues promptly. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and ensure service level agreements and project deadlines are consistently met. Strategic Planning and Alignment Set a clear vision and strategic direction for VACCS, aligning day-to-day operations with broader UIT and campus objectives. Lead organizational change initiatives that build agility and adapt the team to evolving technology and client needs. Oversee project and implementation plans supporting clients, UIT, and the campus community, advocating for needed resources. Talent Management and Accountability Attract, develop, and retain talent, and provide leadership and direction to managers and supervisors across the VACCS org. Set clear performance expectations, hold team members accountable, and foster a positive, inclusive work environment. Collaboration and Partnership Serve as key liaison with internal and external stakeholders, advocating for VACCS priorities. Collaborate across UIT service lines on solutions-oriented approaches to security, infrastructure, and ID card needs. Financial Management Manage a complex mix of funding sources and budgets. Ensure cost recovery and fiscal responsibility, and set service rates that reflect value while sustaining VACCS financially. Oversee budgets and financial plans, allocating resources efficiently, and promote financial awareness across the team. Technology and Service Management Maintain current support plans, service pages, and the UIT service catalog for all VACCS infrastructure and deployments. Ensure intake and change management processes are followed, and prepare the team for smooth service rollouts. Core Duties : Lead and manage technical experts responsible for the development, design, and systems integration for client engagement, from definition phase through implementation; provide technical direction for one or more technical areas. May manage managerial staff. Create and execute business and technical plans, and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Create procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with university policy and federal and state regulations. Evaluate and assess metrics and program effectiveness; review trends and monitor proactively. Establish and manage financials for a program, organization, and/or facilities. Evaluate the effectiveness of the organizational structure and programs to ensure success, development of employees, and appropriate use of staff resources. Lead, hire, coach, and evaluate performance of staff. Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Detailed understanding of relevant business and technical knowledge. Ability to resolve issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives, in a collaborative culture. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff. Exceptional customer relationship skills, consensus building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.
