PSE's Renewable Generation team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Director Renewable Generation position! This position is based in Bellevue, WA; however, alternative work locations may be discussed during the interview process. Job Description Puget Sound Energy (PSE), Washington’s largest energy provider serving more than 1.7 million customers, is leading the transformation to a cleaner energy future. With significant growth, major infrastructure investments, and new renewable technologies coming online, there has never been a more exciting time to join our team. We are seeking a Director Renewable Generation to lead the strategy, operations, maintenance, and performance of PSE’s growing portfolio of renewable energy assets, including utility-scale wind, solar, battery energy storage systems, and emerging technologies. This leader will oversee assets from Washington, Montana, and other potential Pacific Northwest locations while supporting the development and integration of new generation projects that advance PSE’s clean energy goals. Reporting as a key member of our leadership team, the Director will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective operation of renewable generation facilities while maximizing asset performance, optimizing lifecycle value, and supporting regulatory compliance. The role requires strong operational and strategic leadership, balancing reliability, financial performance, stakeholder engagement, and innovation in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. The successful candidate will partner closely with resource planning, development, transmission, operations, construction, environmental, regulatory, and finance teams to position PSE’s renewable generation portfolio to meet current and future customer needs while advancing Washington’s clean energy future. All PSE employees are expected to uphold the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities and promote and support a culture of total safety. All duties are to be performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. Job Responsibilities Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Provides employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and builds effective teams: Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings. Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable. Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed. Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards. Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews and development plans. Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer, and safety results. Renewable Generation Strategy & Asset Portfolio Leadership: Provides strategic leadership for PSE's renewable generation portfolio and supports the company's long-term clean energy objectives. Develops and executes long-range strategies for renewable generation assets, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems, and future renewable technologies. Evaluates and manages operational, commercial, regulatory, and performance risks associated with a variety of ownership, contracting, and operating models, including company-owned assets, long-term service agreements, vendor-operated facilities, and power purchase agreements. Develops strategies that appropriately allocate and mitigate risks while maximizing asset performance, reliability, and long-term value. Evaluates emerging technologies, industry trends, regulatory developments, and market opportunities to inform business strategy. Supports acquisition, development, construction, integration, and optimization of new renewable resources. Optimizes the process for bringing newly constructed renewable energy generation into the operational portfolio, partnering with all internal departments to make the process seamless and repeatable. Serves as a senior subject matter expert on renewable generation technologies and operational best practices. Represents PSE in industry organizations, regulatory proceedings, technical forums, and community-landowner stakeholder engagements. Supports resource planning, rate case development, Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) data requests, business planning, and executive decision-making. Operations, Maintenance & Reliability: Directs the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of renewable generation facilities. Establishes operational performance expectations and reliability objectives across the renewable fleet. Oversees maintenance programs, asset management and spare parts strategies, and long-term capital investment planning. Drives continuous improvement initiatives that improve asset availability, safety performance, operational efficiency, and lifecycle value. Ensures facility performance aligns with environmental, regulatory, contractual, and financial commitments. Partners with system operations, engineering, energy trading, and resource organizations to optimize generation performance and market participation. Oversees service agreements, warranty programs, and contractor relationships supporting facility operations. Additional Responsibilities Compliance, Environmental Stewardship & Risk Management: Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, safety, and contractual requirements. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, permits, landowner agreements, licenses, and NERC operating requirements. Oversees development and implementation of programs supporting environmental stewardship and sustainable operations. Establishes governance, risk management, and performance monitoring systems and processes for renewable generation assets. Leads regulatory inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action initiatives as required. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to proactively identify and mitigate operational and business risks. Financial Performance & Business Management: Directs financial planning and business performance for the renewable generation portfolio. Develops and manages annual and long-range capital and operating budgets. Ensures responsible stewardship of company resources while achieving operational and strategic objectives. Monitors asset financial performance, forecasts expenditures, and identifies opportunities for value optimization. Supports generation business planning, resource evaluations, economic analysis, and investment decisions. Provides reports, recommendations, and presentations to executive leadership and regulatory stakeholders. Emergency Response & Operational Support: Provides leadership support during operational events and business continuity activities. Participates in emergency response, restoration, and business continuity activities as required. Provides executive leadership support during significant operational events affecting company assets or customers. Leads the response to wildfire threats associated with operation of a large renewable energy portfolio. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, energy management, finance, environmental sciences, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in electric generation, renewable energy, utility operations, energy asset management, or related industrial operations. Five (5) years of senior leadership experience managing multi-site operations, major asset portfolios, or complex technical organizations. Demonstrated experience with utility-scale renewable generation technologies, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems, through operations, maintenance, asset management, development, or integration activities. Demonstrated experience leading operations, maintenance, asset management, capital planning, and business performance initiatives. Experience managing regulatory compliance obligations within a highly regulated operating environment. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and influence cross-functional business decisions. Strong business, financial, analytical, and strategic planning skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Valid driver's license. Desired Qualifications Fifteen (15) years of utility, renewable energy, power generation, or related industry experience. Advanced degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Energy Systems, Public Administration, or related discipline. Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or professional asset management, operations, or energy industry certification. Experience integrating newly constructed renewable resources into utility generation portfolios. Knowledge of clean energy policy, regional power markets, transmission planning, and utility regulatory frameworks. Experience supporting utility rate cases, resource acquisition, regulatory testimony, or utility planning processes. Experience leading a unionized workforce and managing within a collective bargaining environment. Demonstrated expertise in utility-scale renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, distributed energy resources, and emerging energy technologies. The pay range for this position is $173,900.00 - $372,000.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses. PSE offers a suite of benefits to our employees.
