Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

At NZ Post, technology plays a critical role in keeping New Zealand connected. As our Disaster Recovery Manager, you'll help ensure the systems and services our customers and people rely on can recover quickly and effectively when the unexpected happens. Reporting to the Technology Risk & Compliance Manager, you'll be responsible for maintaining and evolving our disaster recovery capability, ensuring plans are tested, validated and continuously improved.

This is a role that sits at the intersection of technology, risk and operational resilience. You'll work closely with teams across Data & Technology, business leaders and external partners to understand critical services, assess recovery requirements and strengthen our preparedness for the future. While we already has strong foundations in place, there's a real opportunity to further mature our approach and influence how resilience is embedded across the organisation.

You'll Do This By

  • Leading and continuaity improving our technology disaster recovery framework, plans and recovery strategies
  • Coordinating disaster recovery testing programmes, exercises and failover activities across critical systems
  • Partnering with business and technology stakeholders to define service criticality and recovery requirements
  • Identifying recovery risks, gaps and improvement opportunities, driving practical solutions and outcomes
  • Providing leadership and coordination during recovery events to restore services and minimise disruption
  • Championing a culture of preparedness, resilience and continuous improvement across the organisation

Mōu - About You

You'll likely have built your career in technology infrastructure, service continuity, disaster recovery, resilience, IT operations or technology risk. You understand what it takes to keep critical services running and know that effective recovery isn't just about having a plan on paper, it's about ensuring people, processes and technology are genuinely prepared when they're needed most.

You're someone who can move comfortably between technical and non-technical conversations. One day you might be working with engineers and architects to review recovery strategies for critical platforms, and the next you're presenting testing outcomes, risks and recommendations to senior leaders. You know how to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions constructively, and bring people together to strengthen resilience across a complex organisation.

You'll Combine That With

  • Experience leading or coordinating disaster recovery, business continuity or operational resilience activities
  • A strong understanding of enterprise technology environments, including cloud, infrastructure and critical business applications
  • Confidence facilitating disaster recovery testing, tabletop exercises and post-test reviews that drive meaningful improvement
  • The ability to assess risks, identify gaps and translate technical findings into practical business-focused recommendations
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing technical teams, vendors and senior leaders
  • A structured and pragmatic approach, balancing governance requirements with outcomes that are achievable and sustainable
