About the Role


Clearprise is seeking a Distributed-Systems / Embedded-Comms Engineer to build the core peer-to-peer communication and consensus systems behind a real-time drone deconfliction platform.


You will develop and harden the peer-to-peer mesh, Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus, cryptographically signed identity, and degraded-mode behavior required for sub-50 millisecond deconfliction.


This is a hands-on systems-engineering role requiring strong knowledge of distributed systems, low-latency concurrent programming, embedded hardware constraints, networking, and applied cryptography.


Key Responsibilities


Distributed Systems and Consensus:


  • Design, implement, and harden the peer-to-peer mesh network
  • Develop Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus mechanisms, including pBFT-style approaches
  • Build deterministic real-time deconfliction logic
  • Design systems that remain reliable despite node, communication, or positioning failures
  • Test consensus behavior under packet loss, latency, node failure, and malicious or faulty participants


  • Secure Communications
  • Build cryptographically signed identity and anti-spoofing mechanisms
  • Implement ECDSA-class signing, verification, and secure messaging
  • Develop appropriate key-management and identity-validation processes
  • Implement replay protection and message-integrity controls
  • Identify and address practical security risks in node-to-node communication


  • Embedded Networking and Performance


  • Develop low-latency concurrent software using C++, Rust, or Go
  • Optimize networking and consensus components for embedded or companion hardware
  • Profile and tune systems for sub-50 millisecond performance
  • Improve determinism, memory efficiency, CPU utilization, and communication reliability
  • Build store-and-forward behavior for disconnected or degraded environments


  • Resilience and Field Integration


  • Design graceful-degradation behavior for RF congestion, packet loss, GPS denial, and intermittent connectivity
  • Collaborate closely with the Robotics & Flight-Software Engineer
  • Integrate the networking stack with the flying platform
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop and real-world field validation
  • Analyze logs, identify distributed failure modes, and implement corrective improvements


  • Mandatory Requirements
  • Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including consensus, fault tolerance, and real-time networking
  • Professional systems-programming experience in C++, Rust, or Go
  • Experience writing low-latency, concurrent, and performance-sensitive code
  • Practical understanding of peer-to-peer networking and distributed communication
  • Applied cryptography knowledge covering digital signatures, key management, message integrity, and replay protection
  • Ability to profile and optimize software for embedded or resource-constrained hardware
  • Strong debugging and structured problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work in a research-to-product environment with ambiguous requirements
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Strong professional English and international stakeholder communication
  • Ability to work full-time during EST-aligned hours


Strongly Preferred


  • Experience implementing Byzantine-fault-tolerant or pBFT-style consensus
  • Experience building mesh-networking or peer-to-peer systems
  • Experience with ECDSA or similar digital-signature systems
  • Experience with sub-50 millisecond real-time systems
  • Embedded or companion-computer experience
  • Experience designing for RF-degraded or GPS-denied environments
  • Store-and-forward networking experience
  • Robotics, UAV, aerospace, or safety-critical systems experience
  • Hardware-in-the-loop or field-testing experience


Ideal Candidate


The ideal candidate combines strong computer-science fundamentals with practical systems-engineering ability.


You can turn consensus, fault-tolerance, networking, and cryptographic concepts into reliable production code. You understand latency, concurrency, failure modes, embedded constraints, and the difference between a theoretical design and a system that must work consistently in the field.
