Distribution Engineer Lead Natural Gas Utility Projects While Enjoying 100% Remote Flexibility Are you an experienced engineer looking to take ownership of projects, mentor team members, and serve as a trusted advisor to utility clients? What You'll Be Doing Project Leadership & Client Management Serve as the primary point of contact for utility clients throughout the project lifecycle. Lead client meetings and provide project updates, forecasts, and performance reporting. Manage project scope, schedules, risks, resources, and workload distribution. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations. Engineering & Technical Oversight Lead natural gas distribution design projects from planning through construction release. Review and approve engineering designs, estimates, and construction packages. Perform final technical reviews and Approved for Construction (AFC) releases. Ensure all designs meet regulatory requirements, utility standards, and client specifications. Team Leadership & Mentorship Mentor engineers, designers, and drafting personnel. Provide technical guidance, training, and support to team members. Monitor team performance and project KPIs to drive successful project execution. Help create a collaborative environment focused on professional growth and development. Design Coordination & Compliance Work closely with CAD and drafting teams to develop detailed design packages. Incorporate survey data, cross-sections, environmental requirements, and permitting needs into designs. Support permitting processes and regulatory approvals. Identify opportunities to improve workflows and increase operational efficiency. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Experience within the natural gas utility industry. Strong gas distribution design experience. Proficiency with AutoCAD and engineering design software. Knowledge of permitting and regulatory requirements. Experience working with survey plans and engineering layouts. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to manage project scope, schedules, resources, and risk. Preferred Experience Consulting engineering experience supporting utility clients. Client-facing project leadership experience. Utility infrastructure and gas pipeline design experience. Experience reviewing estimates and construction packages. Background mentoring engineers and design staff. Experience driving process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives. Ability to lead projects in a highly collaborative remote environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woodridge, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $54.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
