Key Responsibilities include: Developing, maintaining, and supporting high-quality technical documents, templates, and production standards that ensure consistency, efficiency, and accessibility across project deliverables. Working in both Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, this position serves as the team's technical expert in document architecture, template development, document production, and accessibility best practices. The role partners with graphic designers, engineers, planners, GIS professionals, technical authors, and project managers to develop structured, branded, and accessible communication materials that support engineering, planning, and public involvement initiatives. By establishing document standards early in the production process, the Document Design & Accessibility Specialist improves document quality, streamlines production workflows, reduces downstream remediation efforts, and helps ensure deliverables are accessible to all audiences. Accessibility & Quality Apply accessibility best practices during document development to support Section 508 and WCAG compliance. Build accessible document structures using paragraph styles, heading hierarchies, table formatting, reading order, and alternative text. Perform accessibility quality reviews using tools such as PAC, Microsoft Accessibility Checker, Adobe Acrobat, and screen reader testing. Collaborate with accessibility specialists to resolve issues identified during remediation and quality assurance. Collaboration Partner with graphic designers, technical staff, and project managers to produce high-quality deliverables. Provide guidance on document best practices and accessibility considerations. Assist various project teams in preparing documents for accessibility review and final production. Document Systems & Production Develop, format, and maintain complex Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign documents. Build and maintain document templates, style libraries, master pages, numbering systems, tables of contents, indexes, and cross-references. Organize and maintain large reports with consistent formatting and document architecture. Troubleshoot document formatting, layout, and production issues. Support efficient document production workflows from draft through final publication. Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Ability to pass MVR check + traditional background screening process. Preferred Qualifications: Possess BA/BS and 3 + years of Document Design & Accessibility Specialist specific and/or related experience. Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Pac Checker and accessibility evaluation tools; keyboard navigation, and screen readers. Proven track record in InDesign file and style set-up. Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, and Section 508 requirements. Clear written communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, formatting, and brand consistency Strong organization and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and stakeholder feedback All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
