Domain Architect – Infrastructure & Data Centre Migration
Contract: 12-month fixed term
Salary: £50,000–£62,000 per year
Location: Remote, UK-based, with occasional travel; Greater Manchester preferred
About the role
3Roc is hiring a Domain Architect to shape the infrastructure architecture for a major data centre migration programme. You’ll define how Windows Server, VMware, identity, networking, resilience and recovery services fit together in the target environment, then guide delivery teams through build, migration and transition.
You’ll work closely with the client, internal teams and third-party suppliers to make sure architectural decisions are practical, documented and aligned with operational needs.
What you’ll do
- Define the current and target infrastructure architecture, migration approach and technical standards.
- Produce architecture designs, diagrams, decision records and transition plans.
- Set requirements for availability, disaster recovery, security and operational support.
- Review designs and implementation plans across Windows Server, VMware and related infrastructure services.
- Identify dependencies and risks that could affect migration waves or cutovers.
- Provide architectural guidance during build, testing, migration and handover.
- Work with stakeholders and delivery partners to resolve cross-domain design issues.
What we’re looking for
- Experience as an infrastructure or domain architect in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server and VMware, including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter and clustering.
- Experience designing or governing data centre migrations and infrastructure transformation programmes.
- Ability to turn business and technical requirements into clear, deliverable designs.
- Strong communication skills and experience working across client and multi-supplier teams.
Desirable: Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, backup and recovery; experience in public sector or regulated environments; and familiarity with automation such as PowerShell.
