DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTORNEY

Description Georgia Legal Services Program is a leader in creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty for low income Georgians. We fight for justice where it is most needed. Georgia Legal Services seeks a Domestic Violence staff attorney to work in its Dalton Regional office. The Dalton Office serves 6 counties in Northwest Georgia and is located about 20 minutes south of Chattanooga and 88 miles north of Atlanta. This is a grant-funded position that will provide holistic legal representation in civil matters to victims of domestic violence in protective order, divorce, custody, benefits, and housing cases. Primary Responsibilities: · Litigate cases in administrative, state and federal forums. · Draft briefs, motions and memoranda. · Conduct community legal education sessions and engage in outreach activities. · Participate on action teams that explore and solve systemic issues affecting clients. · Collaborate with domestic violence shelters to provide legal services to victims of domestic violence. · Participate in domestic violence task force meetings. Requirements · Graduate of accredited law school; · Admission to the Georgia Bar, or willingness to sit for the next exam; · Reliable vehicle and driver’s license; · Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. · Demonstrated interest or experience working with low income clients on poverty law issues and commitment to social justice; · Ability to work with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives; · Excellent oral advocacy, research and writing skills; · Attention to detail and self-motivated; · Ability to be creative and a team player. Salary and Benefits: The starting salary is $58,250+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; birthday holiday; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible); 403B with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses. GLSP offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
