The Donor Engagement Specialist, Travel works with the Donor Marketing & Engagement Team to produce best-in-class engagement opportunities that speak to the hearts and minds of our supporters, inspire them to draw closer to the organization, and deepen their philanthropic investment to support Earthjustice’s mission.

With the guidance of the Donor Engagement Manager for the Travel Program, this position is responsible for providing thought partnership with fundraisers for the development of customized travel experiences and the tactical execution of all aspects of the donor travel program.

The primary focus of this position is to produce high quality, customized travel experiences for select Principal and Institutional Funders. This role works closely with department leadership, colleagues, and Trustees or Council members to co-create trip concepts, invitation strategies, and the story arc of custom travel experiences. The role requires a self-starter, experience in mission-driven travel programs, and creativity to translate legal programs into compelling travel experiences.

This is a non-supervisory position.

The Donor Engagement Specialist, Travel is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule, and may work remotely in the Contiguous U.S. with the following locations preferred: San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC, Denver, CO, or Bozeman, MT. This position requires travel for scoping trips, conferences, and planning meetings. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required.

What You'll Do

Strategic Partnership & Travel Program Planning (30%)

  • Co-design travel programs specifically for principal and institutional funders, creating frameworks for the intake & prioritization of new requests and benchmarks for evaluating success.
  • Proactively research and develop new trip concepts with the goals of drawing our target audiences closer to Earthjustice, inspiring deeper understanding of our programs and connecting them to the impact of their support. Requires creativity.
  • Actively pursue professional development to strengthen job-related skills, understand industry trends, and contribute to an equitable, justice-centered environment in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered.

Trip Development and Coordination (50%)

  • Operationalize and implement custom travel programs for the principal gift institutional funder audiences, planning and executing 3-4 highly tailored travel experiences annually.
  • Oversee all aspects of travel planning, partnering with fundraisers, donor relations colleagues, program staff, and outfitters to develop strategic travel experiences and guest recruitment strategies. Requires travel for research and scoping.
  • Brief leadership and staff, guests, and hosts in preparation for each trip. Convene debriefing sessions to analyze the effectiveness of the effort and identify opportunities for improvement with future efforts.
  • Negotiate trip costs with outfitters and manage trip expenses to ensure alignment with team budget.

Host Engagement and Guest Recruitment (20%)

  • Partner with donor relations colleagues and fundraisers to explore and activate volunteer leaders as hosts or anchor trip participants.
  • Partner with volunteer leaders as hosts, co-designing travel experiences and developing trip-specific guest recruitment strategies.
  • Draft and oversee the production of trip invitation materials and guest communications. Coordinate with donor relations colleagues and fundraisers on execution.
  • Provide best in class customer service in communications with invitees and hosts.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of work experience developing multi-day travel experiences for major and principal level funders in a non-profit environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mission-driven travel planning, industry standards, and donor relations best practices.
  • Self-starter with the ability to develop specialized strategies and lead complex assignments in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to anticipate needs of stakeholders, proactively provide necessary information, respond promptly to stakeholders, and demonstrate discretion in communicating with different audiences.
  • Acute attention to detail and commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Experience crafting budgets and negotiating vendor contracts preferred.
  • Strong critical and innovative thinking skills, including the ability to work strategically, creatively, and efficiently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and make decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientation.
  • Strong general computer skills, including data processing and entry, and experience with a fundraising database application, preferably Salesforce.

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.

The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco, CA is $107,500 - $119,400

The annual salary range for this role in Washington, DC is $102,200 - $113,500

The annual salary range for this role in Denver, CO is $96,800 - $107,500

The annual salary range for this role in Bozeman, MT is $91,400 - $101,500

The remote salary range for this role will vary depending on specific location: $91,400 - $119,400
