Position: Early Childhood & Childcare Coordinator Reports to: Journey Kids Director Status: Part-time Hourly (Non-Exempt) Hours: 20 hours per week Position Summary: The Early Childhood & Childcare Coordinator is responsible for leading, developing, and supporting the Early Childhood and Childcare ministries at Journey Christian Church. This role oversees volunteer and childcare staff recruitment, training, scheduling, communication, curriculum implementation, supplies, events, and ministry environments. The ideal candidate is organized, relational, proactive, and passionate about creating safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environments where children can learn, grow, and experience the love of Jesus. This position works closely with the Journey Kids Director and ministry teams to ensure excellence, consistency, and alignment with Journey Christian Church culture and child safety standards. Key Responsibilities & Duties Early Childhood Ministry: New Leader Training & Orientation Recruit, train, equip, and develop new volunteers for the Early Childhood ministry. Facilitate comprehensive training and orientation programs to prepare new volunteers for their roles and responsibilities. Ensure volunteers understand ministry expectations, curriculum, child safety procedures, and Journey Kids culture. Volunteer Management Schedule and coordinate volunteers for weekly Early Childhood services. Lead, support, encourage, and mentor the Early Childhood volunteer team. Ensure consistent execution of curriculum and a high-quality experience for children and families. Build a strong team culture that promotes connection, ownership, and service. Curriculum & Supplies Collaborate with the Early Childhood team to effectively implement curriculum and age-appropriate activities. Ensure classrooms have the necessary materials, supplies, and resources to provide an engaging learning environment. Order and maintain supplies within the established ministry budget and guidelines. Communication & Connectivity Foster clear, consistent, and timely communication with the Early Childhood team. Maintain regular communication with the Journey Kids team to ensure seamless workflow and coordination. Help ensure volunteers and team members are informed about schedules, curriculum, events, and ministry expectations. Room Organization & Maintenance Organize and maintain Early Childhood classrooms to ensure they are safe, clean, organized, and inviting. Regularly assess classroom environments and address maintenance or supply needs. Assist with purchasing and stocking snacks and drinks for volunteers in the Meeting Place. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds . Event Planning & Execution Assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of Journey Kids events, including but not limited to: Baby Dedication Jingle Jam Summer Jam Other Journey Kids ministry events and initiatives Global Engagement Attend Journey Kids global meetings to remain informed about ministry initiatives, priorities, and organizational direction. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and other ministry development opportunities as requested. Child Safety & Welfare Create and maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and engaging environments that prioritize the well-being of every child. Ensure compliance with all Journey Church child safety policies, procedures, and protocols. Address safety concerns promptly and communicate appropriately with ministry leadership. Collaboration Maintain open, positive, and collaborative communication with the Journey Kids Director. Partner with other Journey Kids team members to ensure cohesive ministry operations and a consistent experience for children and families. Childcare Ministry: Staff Management Recruit, train, develop, and schedule childcare staff for ministry events and activities. Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and leadership to childcare staff. Foster a positive, welcoming, and supportive team environment. Childcare Requests Respond promptly and professionally to childcare requests submitted by ministry leaders through the designated Wufoo request process. Coordinate staffing and logistics to ensure appropriate childcare coverage for approved events. Financial Administration Process check requests related to childcare staff payroll. Ensure requests are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Obtain required signatures and approvals for each area of ministry. Nourishment & Care Provide appropriate snacks and meals for children in accordance with established guidelines. Ensure food and refreshments are handled and provided in a safe and age-appropriate manner. Resource Management Organize, clean, and maintain the childcare cart and related resources. Purchase new activities, games, lessons, and other materials to enhance the childcare experience with approval from the Journey Kids Director. Ensure childcare resources are age-appropriate, engaging, and well maintained. Journey Culture Integration Incorporate Journey Church culture into childcare experiences through age-appropriate curriculum, devotional lessons, activities, and conversations. Help create an environment where children experience care, connection, and the love of Jesus. Incident Reporting Promptly report any incidents, injuries, concerns, or other matters involving children to the Journey Kids Director within 24 hours . Follow all established procedures for documenting and communicating incidents. Prioritize child safety and appropriate follow-up in every situation. Qualifications & Skills High School diploma. Experience working with children in an early childhood, childcare, ministry, education, or related setting. Experience recruiting, training, scheduling, and managing volunteers and/or staff. Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build strong, positive relationships with volunteers, staff, children, families, and ministry leaders. Knowledge and understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate learning activities. Ability to create and maintain safe, clean, engaging, and welcoming environments for children. Ability to effectively implement and support age-appropriate curriculum. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, priorities, and deadlines. Commitment to Journey Christian Church values, culture, mission, and ministry philosophy. Willingness and ability to adhere to all child safety policies and protocols.
