Job Description

A large international software organisation is undergoing a major transformation of its IT infrastructure. For many years, customer environments have been hosted and managed across traditional and on premise infrastructure. The organisation is now moving towards a modern Microsoft Azure public cloud environment, and this is a long term transformation that will take place over the coming years. This means migrating existing infrastructure, servers, data and application environments while continuing to provide a reliable service to hundreds of customers.
To support this transition, we are looking for an experienced Microsoft Cloud Engineer, Infrastructure who understands both traditional Microsoft infrastructure and modern Azure environments.
This is a hands on infrastructure role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of Microsoft infrastructure, Azure, cloud migration, automation and platform engineering.

The role
You will become part of a team responsible for managing and further developing the Microsoft infrastructure while supporting the migration from traditional environments into Azure.
Your work will cover the full infrastructure lifecycle: managing and improving existing Windows based environments, building and maintaining Azure infrastructure, automating processes and supporting the migration of customer environments from on premise infrastructure to the public cloud.
You will work with Azure infrastructure, servers, storage, networking and security, while also contributing to the standardisation and automation of the platform. Depending on your background, your experience may lean more towards the infrastructure and storage side or towards managing application environments within Azure.
The important part is that you are comfortable working with enterprise Microsoft infrastructure and understand what is involved in moving existing environments into Azure without compromising reliability, security or service continuity.

What we are looking for
You have at least 4 years of professional experience in a service oriented cloud environment and a strong background in Microsoft infrastructure.
Microsoft Azure experience is mandatory, as is practical experience with Azure Platform Engineering. You should have hands on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure Infrastructure, Azure Storage, Azure Networking and Azure Security.
You must also have experience with PowerShell, Bicep and Infrastructure as Code, as well as Azure DevOps and CI/CD. Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop, monitoring, troubleshooting and enterprise security tooling is highly relevant.
Most importantly, you have experience with cloud migrations, ideally migrating existing on premise infrastructure into Microsoft Azure. You understand the challenges of working with a combination of legacy infrastructure and modern cloud technology and know how to approach a migration in a structured and reliable way.

This is NOT a classic DevOps role
The cloud market uses many different job titles for similar types of work. Depending on the organisation, someone doing infrastructure work might be called a Cloud Engineer, Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE or Cloud Consultant.
For this position, we are looking beyond the job title. This role is not focused on Kubernetes, containers, Linux or software development. We are specifically looking for someone with a strong Microsoft infrastructure and Azure background.
If your experience is primarily DevOps with a focus on Kubernetes, Linux, application development or CI/CD pipelines, this position is unlikely to be the right match.
If you have worked as a Cloud Engineer, Azure Engineer, Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer or Platform Engineer and your experience includes Windows, Azure infrastructure, servers, storage and cloud migration, we would be very interested in hearing from you.

A long term Azure transformation
What makes this role particularly interesting is the scale of the transition.
You will not simply be maintaining an existing Azure environment. You will be involved in a multi year transformation from traditional infrastructure towards public cloud, helping to move existing customer environments into a modern Azure platform.
It is therefore an opportunity for someone who wants to work on a substantial cloud migration while still staying close to the infrastructure itself.

What you can expect
You will join an international organisation where English is widely spoken and where you will work with experienced technology professionals across different teams.
The position is permanent and full time, with 32 or 36 hours potentially negotiable for an exceptionally strong profile.
The role is hybrid, with an expectation of working from the Utrecht office approximately 2–3 days per week, depending on the team and operational requirements. There may also be possibilities to work from the Delft office.
The package includes a salary of up to €90,000 gross per year, including a 13th month and holiday allowance, 27 vacation days plus additional loyalty days, a 50/50 pension contribution, travel reimbursement, home working allowance and a home office budget.

Important, Netherlands based candidates only!

You must already be living in the Netherlands. The organisation does not provide visa sponsorship, relocation support or remote contracts from abroad. You must therefore already have the unrestricted right to work in the Netherlands and be able to start employment without requiring a new work permit or immigration process. This is a local, permanent position with regular presence required at the Utrecht office.
