This position has a term length of one year plus one day, with the possibility of renewal. Location - This position offers a flexible work arrangement, allowing for a combination of remote and in-office work (in Edmonton) based on work preferences. Preference for schedule will be discussed during the recruitment process. Reporting to the Restoration Field Coordinator or Senior Lead, Monitoring and Science Innovation, the Ecological Field Technologist conducts ecological field monitoring and restoration monitoring activities across Alberta. The position is responsible for implementing established monitoring protocols, collecting high-quality field data, maintaining specialized equipment, and supporting the safe and efficient delivery of field programs. The position works independently in remote environments and collaborates with scientists, technical staff, and seasonal field personnel to support ABMI's long-term biodiversity monitoring programs. Field Monitoring Conducts ecological field sampling and restoration monitoring using established protocols. Collects, records, verifies, and manages field data. Establishes monitoring sites and completes biological surveys. Identifies and reports issues affecting data quality. Assists with field reconnaissance and sampling design implementation. Equipment and Logistics Operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots field equipment. Prepares vehicles, equipment, and supplies for field deployments. Maintains field inventories. Assists with logistics and operational readiness. Quality Assurance and Safety Implements established monitoring protocols and quality assurance procedures. Performs routine quality checks on field data. Works safely in remote environments following established safe work procedures. Assists with training and mentoring seasonal staff when required. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline. Minimum two years of experience conducting ecological field work or environmental monitoring. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered. Experience working safely in remote field environments. Knowledge of ecological sampling methods, field equipment, GPS, and digital data collection systems. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license, and be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.
