Is this job info correct?

EconWorks Advisory provides economics-focused advisory services to government and private-sector clients navigating the economic, political, and regulatory environment in Malaysia and the broader Asia Pacific region.

We are recruiting a full-time economist to join our macroeconomic practice. The economist will work to deliver economic and political analysis on Malaysia and other Asia Pacific economies. The output is a mix of regular data commentary, thematic reports, periodic briefings and presentations, and bespoke client analysis for financial institutions, corporates, and government clients with a commercial or policy interest in the region.

This is a junior role suited to candidates with less than two years of full-time employment experience and who want to build skills and exposure in studying the region’s economies. Recent graduates seeking their first full-time position are strongly encouraged to apply.

What the role involves

  • Tracking the release of economic data, policy developments, and political events across countries, and writing analytical commentary on their implications.
  • Building and maintaining data trackers and quantitative models, updating them on a regular basis and using them to inform country analysis.
  • Preparation of client-oriented reports, presentations, and publications.

Experience, skills, and qualifications:

The successful candidate should be comfortable with economic analysis in both quantitative and qualitative terms to assess current developments and long-run trends in the region. Other relevant skills and qualifications include:

  • An undergraduate degree in any of the following or related subject areas: economics, finance, business, and other quantitative social sciences broadly defined. Relevant postgraduate qualifications may be an advantage but not a necessity.
  • Familiarity (or willingness to learn) with key macroeconomic statistics (GDP, Prices, Trade, fiscal and monetary indicators) from official and alternative sources and their implications for economic performance. Evidence of prior exposure to Asian economies through coursework, an internship, or independent study is welcome.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Other languages that enable an improved understanding of other Asian markets (Mandarin, Malay, Indonesian, etc.) are an advantage.
  • No coding is required for this role. Familiarity with Python, R, or Stata is a plus.

This is primarily a remote working arrangement with periodic meetings with colleagues, but the successful candidate will need to be Malaysia-based. Travel within the region will occur from time to time.

Kindly append a writing sample (~1000 words) on any economic or political topic together with the resume submission.
