Make a real difference to the lives of children and young people across Lancashire.

At Lancashire County Council, we believe every child and young person deserves access to the right education, support and opportunities to thrive. We are looking for passionate, resilient and highly motivated Education Inclusion Workers to join our growing Alternative Provision Team within the Specialist Teaching Service.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team dedicated to promoting inclusion, removing barriers to education, and ensuring children and young people receive the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role

As an Education Inclusion Worker, you will play a vital role in championing education inclusion across Lancashire. Working directly with children, families, schools and partner agencies, you will help identify barriers to education and support the development of effective, child-centred solutions.

You will manage your own caseload and work proactively to ensure children and young people remain engaged in suitable education provision wherever possible.

Job Description & Person Specification

What You'll Be Doing

  • Acting as an advocate for children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard and valued.
  • Providing advice, support and guidance to schools, families and young people.
  • Carrying out home visits to gather the voice of the child and discuss appropriate educational provision.
  • Working collaboratively with schools to promote inclusion, prevent exclusion and support reasonable adjustments for pupils on roll.
  • Attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings, helping shape plans that improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Building strong relationships with partner agencies including Children's Social Care, SEND Services, CAMHS, Youth Justice Services and other support organisations.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of education legislation, statutory guidance and Lancashire County Council processes.
  • Working closely with colleagues across Pupil Access, Elective Home Education and Children Missing Education services.
  • Liaising with alternative provision providers, supporting referrals and undertaking quality assurance activities.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports through a range of ICT systems.
  • Using digital tools and technology effectively to support service delivery.

About You

We're looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people and committed to improving educational outcomes.

You will:

  • Have a strong understanding of the education sector and the challenges faced by vulnerable children and young people.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant education legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Be an excellent communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with families, schools and partner agencies.
  • Be organised and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Show sound judgement, professional curiosity and a solution-focused approach.
  • Be committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to join a supportive and professional team making a genuine difference across Lancashire.

In return, we offer:

  • A friendly, welcoming and experienced team with a shared commitment to inclusion.
  • Comprehensive induction, support and mentoring from experienced colleagues.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • A varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
  • Flexible and hybrid working, including home working and travel across Lancashire.
  • Access to a wide range of health, wellbeing and staff support networks.

Additonal Information:

Please ensure you have uploaded and attached your supporting statement to evidence how you meet the criteria for the role. The panel may be unable to shortlist you for interview without this evidence.

The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Further information can be found on the 'Our Recruitment Process' tab.

You will be required to provide a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. However, we may consider you if you cannot drive because of a disability.

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.

Throughout this period, our focus remains on delivering excellent services to our communities. By joining us now, you'll play an important role in shaping the future of local government and helping to build a strong new organisation that will serve residents for years to come.

We reserve the right to close down a vacancy early, before the closing date, if we receive sufficient applications.
