ActalentservicesJob Title: Electrical Design Engineer Job Description The Electrical Design Engineer designs, analyzes, integrates, and tests complex electrical systems for military products, accelerating design cycles through forward-leaning, AI-driven and digital engineering approaches. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors to deliver robust, well-documented hardware solutions and to support the full lifecycle of electrical systems from concept through qualification. Responsibilities Conduct and support the development of requirements for electrical systems used in military products, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and compliance objectives. Analyze, design, develop, integrate, and test electrical systems hardware, including boards, subsystems, and associated components. Participate in trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and capability analysis to compare design options and recommend optimal technical solutions. Test and evaluate electrical systems as part of a team of engineers, documenting results and driving corrective actions and improvements. Develop test fixtures and prototypes as needed to diagnose, validate, or characterize specific components and system behaviors. Create and maintain detailed cable diagrams and electrical schematics, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and configuration control. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, mechanical, and systems engineering, to ensure successful integration of electrical hardware into larger systems. Provide technical support to other teams as needed, troubleshooting issues and offering guidance on electrical design and integration. Engage with customers and vendors to clarify requirements, discuss design decisions, address technical issues, and support program objectives. Accelerate design cycles by applying efficient design practices, tools, and processes that reduce development time while maintaining quality. Embrace AI-driven design and forward-leaning engineering methods, incorporating automation and artificial intelligence where appropriate to improve design quality and speed. Apply digital engineering practices to model, simulate, and document electrical systems throughout the development lifecycle. Identify technical risks related to electrical systems design and integration, and support the development of mitigation strategies. Manage and prioritize multiple parallel efforts, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and aligned with project milestones. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering or science field. 10–15 years of experience in electrical systems hardware design and integration. Strong experience creating and maintaining cable diagrams and electrical schematics. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both software and hardware teams and technologies. Proficiency in electrical design tools such as Altium and AutoCAD Electrical or similar platforms. Deep understanding of electrical engineering principles applied to complex systems, particularly in a defense or military product context. Proven ability to participate in and contribute to trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and capability analyses. Experience developing test fixtures and prototypes for component and system-level testing. Strong skills in customer communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and respond to customer needs. Excellent team communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional engineering groups. Ability to multitask and manage multiple parallel efforts while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Experience with risk identification and mitigation related to electrical design and integration. Comfort with AI-driven and digital engineering concepts, and willingness to apply these approaches to accelerate design cycles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on military or defense-related products and understanding of their unique requirements is highly beneficial. Experience in automation and artificial intelligence as applied to engineering workflows and design optimization. Familiarity with modern digital engineering practices, including model-based approaches and integrated toolchains. Ability to support cross-functional teams by providing clear documentation, diagrams, and technical guidance. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex electrical issues using both analytical and hands-on methods. Capability to thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities may shift and multiple projects run concurrently. Work Environment The role offers flexibility to work either remotely or onsite in Huntsville, Alabama. Onsite work typically occurs in a professional engineering environment with access to standard electronic lab equipment, design tools, and collaboration spaces. Remote team members collaborate through digital communication platforms, engineering software, and shared documentation systems. Work involves close coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams, as well as regular interaction with customers and vendors, in a culture that values innovation, forward-leaning AI-driven design, and digital engineering practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $150.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
