Description

About the Role
Pearson designs and builds automated secondary packaging machinery, and every machine depends on accurate, standards-compliant electrical documentation. The Electrical Drafter works closely with the controls engineers to create and maintain that documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and electrical BOMs, so our controls engineers can focus on the control strategy for our engineered-to-order (ETO) and configure-to-order (CTO) equipment. You’ll also help build and maintain the DriveWorks automation that will generate our electrical schematics, which makes our documentation process faster and more consistent with every machine we ship.

Level Expectations
Electrical Drafter (entry to mid level): Produces accurate schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs from engineering input and existing standards. Maintains accurate and consistent. Supports panel build and assembly with drawing questions and red-line updates. Learns and uses existing DriveWorks automation.

Senior Electrical Drafter: Develops original electrical designs and schematics with minimal direction. Leads development and maintains integrity of DriveWorks and template consistency across our product offering. Owns electrical drafting standards, libraries, and templates. Reviews other drafters' work for accuracy and compliance. Supports prototype builds, panel troubleshooting, and remote customer support on electrical documentation issues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings in SolidWorks Electrical, in accordance with NEC standards, UL508a, and customer specifications.
  • Build and maintain DriveWorks macros that automatically generate the electrical schema for ETO machines.
  • Develop and maintain electrical BOMs to support accurate cost estimating for budgeting and procurement teams.
  • Update electrical documentation through the engineering change process (Engineering Change Order) and maintain file integrity and revisions in PDM.
  • Help coordinate and maintain electrical drafting standards, symbol libraries, and templates.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to keep electrical documentation up to date from concept through release.
  • Provide technical support to panel build, assembly, and service teams, and resolve electrical documentation issues during build and installation.
Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Completion of a two-year industrial electricity or electrical technology program, or equivalent experience or certification in electrical design for machinery.
  • 2+ years of electrical drafting experience in industrial machinery (Electrical Drafter); 5+ years (Senior Electrical Drafter).
  • Experience in SolidWorks Electrical
  • Ability to prepare thorough, detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Sound design judgment and the ability to contribute technical knowledge to cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks and assignments on time.

Preferred

  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, Solidworks Electrical 3D, PDM, DriveWorks, especially building macros or rules for automated drawing generation (required for Senior).
  • Knowledge of NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A industrial control panel standards.
