Electrical Engineer

Role Description This is a full-time, Electrical Engineer role based in Stellenbosch. There is an opportunity for the occasional remote work with our hybrid work policy. The Electrical Engineer will develop power system models, analyse, and optimise electricity and power distribution systems in line with client needs and regulatory standards. Day-to-day tasks include developing electrical system models, preparing technical reports, and contributing to master planning and cost of supply study projects. The role also involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, supporting the integration of GLS’s proprietary software tools into client solutions, and participating in project reviews and quality assurance activities. The Electrical Engineer will engage directly with clients to understand requirements, present findings, and recommend technically sound, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Electrical Engineering, with knowledge of Electricity and fundamental electrical principles.
• Proficiency in Electrical Design and Power Distribution software for municipal or utility-scale systems (ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, P/SSE, Edisan, ReticMaster, etc).
• Intermediate/Competent in using GIS Tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, Albion, etc.)
• 2-6 years experience working with Power Systems, including modeling, analysis, and optimization.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with engineering design and analysis software; familiarity with utility or infrastructure planning tools is an advantage.
• ECSA Candidate Engineer. PrEng will be advantageous.
• Ability to interpret technical standards, regulations, and client specifications, and translate them into practical plans.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and numerical skills, with attention to detail and quality.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience in municipal infrastructure, asset management, or master planning projects is beneficial.
