AECOM is seeking a motivated and talented Electrical Engineer II to join our Buildings + Places team in Arlington, Virginia. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-performance new construction and renovation projects across multiple market sectors, including federal and government facilities, mission critical and data centers, transportation, commercial, industrial, healthcare, laboratory, educational, residential, and recreational developments.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of innovative electrical systems while developing your technical expertise under the guidance of experienced senior engineers and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Develop electrical designs for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.
  • Create and maintain 3D electrical models using Revit and prepare 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Perform electrical system studies using SKM, including:
    • Short circuit and fault current analysis
    • Time-current coordination (TCC) studies
    • Arc flash analysis and labeling
    • Voltage drop calculations
  • Apply client standards and project requirements while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct field investigations and assess existing site conditions to support renovation and modernization projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Assist in the design of: Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems Interior and exterior lighting systems Grounding and lightning protection systems Security and low-voltage systems
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other disciplines to deliver coordinated design solutions.
  • Apply engineering judgment when evaluating design alternatives and developing technical solutions.
  • Support project delivery activities under the direction of project managers and senior technical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience designing electrical power distribution and lighting systems for commercial, institutional, or government facilities.
  • Experience with modifications and upgrades to low-voltage electrical systems (480V and below).
  • Familiarity with electrical analyses, including:
    • Load calculations
    • Short circuit studies
    • Arc flash studies
    • Voltage drop calculations
  • Experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or active pursuit of professional licensure.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15-20% as required
  • Experience in building systems and facilities engineering.
  • Desire to learn and grow in the preparation of electrical design and construction documents.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable NFPA standards.
  • Experience supporting federal, Department of Defense (DoD), and commercial facility projects.
  • Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and other federal design standards.
  • Experience performing coordinated multidisciplinary building design projects.
  • Understanding of project budgets, schedules, and construction constraints.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as: SKM ETAP AGi32 Revit AutoCAD Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complete, accurate, and coordinated design packages on schedule and within budget.
