Role Description

The Electromagnetic Engineer – UAV / Drone Systems is a full-time remote role responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing electromagnetic subsystems for unmanned aerial vehicles and drone platforms. Day-to-day tasks include performing EM simulations and modeling for antennas, RF systems, and communication links, as well as evaluating electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and interference (EMI) issues in complex environments. The role involves collaborating with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to integrate EM designs into overall UAV architectures, conducting lab and field tests to validate system performance, and documenting results and recommendations. The engineer will also support troubleshooting, design improvements, and compliance with relevant standards, while contributing to the development of innovative solutions that enhance reliability, range, and data integrity of drone-based applications.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in electromagnetics, RF engineering, and antenna theory, including experience with propagation, signal integrity, and EMC/EMI analysis.
• Hands-on experience with UAV/drone systems, including integration of communication payloads, navigation systems, and sensor suites in airborne platforms.
• Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation and design tools (e.g., CST, HFSS, COMSOL, FEKO, or similar), as well as CAD tools for hardware integration.
• Experience with RF test and measurement equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators) and practical lab validation methods.
• Knowledge of communication protocols and standards relevant to UAVs (e.g., telemetry links, Wi-Fi, cellular, GNSS, and license-free RF bands), and associated regulatory considerations.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field; advanced coursework or research in electromagnetics is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and distributed teams.
