Faculty of Science Department of Physics Position Summary: Under the direction of the Chair, the Electronics Coordinator provides technical support for research, teaching, and departmental operations within the Department of Physics in the areas of instrumentation and automation, electronics, electricity, electrodynamics, and optics. The incumbent designs, builds, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots scientific instrumentation, electronic and electrical systems, circuitry, and laboratory equipment, working closely with faculty, students, and technical staff. This position requires working on-site Monday to Friday. Primary Responsibilities: Designs, modifies, builds, installs, tests, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains electronic, electrical, and research instrumentation systems and equipment in support of teaching and research activities. Reviews and analyzes project requests, advises on feasibility, establishes time and cost estimates, and coordinates the execution of technical projects and services. Evaluates, tests, and modifies equipment, procedures, and methodologies and recommends improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Prepares technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and related documentation. Assembles, installs, and maintains laboratory equipment, instrumentation systems, cabling, and associated components. Acts as a technical resource person and provides guidance and assistance to faculty, staff, researchers, and students regarding equipment, instrumentation, techniques, and work methods. Liaises with the Departmental machine shop for the construction, modification, and repair of equipment . Supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of laboratory and research equipment and arranges servicing as required. Maintains inventories and recommends the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies. Liaises with vendors, contractors, and service providers regarding equipment, repairs, and technical services. Maintains records, files, and computerized information systems related to projects, equipment, and unit operations. Keeps abreast of developments in instrumentation, electronics, automation, and related technologies to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities: Undergraduate degree in a related field, preferably in Physics, or Engineering. Bilingual; excellent verbal and written communication skills, in both English and French. Demonstrated experience designing, building, installing, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic, electrical, and scientific instrumentation systems and equipment. Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software and other mechanical design tools. Experience in machining, fabrication, and laboratory equipment assembly. Knowledge of instrumentation, electronics, automation, and data acquisition systems. Experience supporting research laboratories and specialized scientific equipment. Experience with optical, photonic, or laser-based instrumentation is an asset. Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), Windows.
