Embedded Rust Engineer


Our client is a leading international healthcare and diagnostics company with a major site in the Zug region. The company develops innovative diagnostic systems and solutions used by healthcare professionals and laboratories worldwide. You will join an experienced software engineering team working on reliable, high-quality embedded solutions in a regulated environment.


We are looking for an experienced Embedded Rust Engineer to strengthen the software development team. You will work on embedded and real-time software, contribute to software architecture and take ownership of development tasks from concept through implementation and maintenance. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to hardware and has a strong passion for Rust and real-time systems.


The position is based in Rotkreuz and is offered at a 100% workload. The start date is as soon as possible, with 1 December 2026 as the latest possible start date. The initial contract duration is 12 months from the start date, with a possible extension depending on the project. Up to 50% remote work is possible.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop software concepts and participate in feasibility studies.
  • Take ownership of software development tasks and ensure quality and review processes are followed.
  • Define, estimate and plan work packages and contribute to software specifications and designs.
  • Contribute to software architecture and define relevant quality attributes.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement bug fixes for post-market software releases.
  • Ensure compliance with development processes and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with other teams and actively share technical knowledge.


Required Skills & Experience

Embedded & Real-Time

  • Hands-on professional experience in embedded or systems-level software development.
  • Experience with real-time Linux (PREEMPT_RT) or a comparable RTOS.
  • Practical experience with CAN bus – mandatory.
  • Good understanding of real-time concepts such as latency, jitter and task scheduling.
  • Experience working with physical hardware and low-level systems.


Rust & Software Engineering

  • 2+ years of professional experience with Rust.
  • Strong understanding of ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits and error handling.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming in Rust.
  • Good knowledge of Linux and embedded build/debug tooling.
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a comparable field.


Professional Skills

  • Proactive, structured and solution-oriented working style.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to work towards deadlines.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as medical devices, automotive, aerospace or industrial safety.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Fluent in English.


Nice to Have

  • Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485 or IVDR.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures, RabbitMQ or Domain-Driven Design.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in CI/build environments.
  • Experience in agile development environments.
  • German language skills.
