Company: AuditTruss, Inc.
Location: Remote – United States Preferred
Employment Type: Full-Time or Contract
Compensation: $50–$85/hour (Contract) | Full-Time Salary Negotiable
Industry: Construction Technology (ConTech), AI & Wearable Technology
About AuditTrussAuditTruss, Inc. is an emerging construction technology company developing AI-powered software designed to connect construction field operations with office teams.
Our mission is to build the intelligence layer between the construction field and office, making project information more accessible, communication more efficient, and technology easier to use for the people building our infrastructure.
As we expand our product vision, we are exploring AI-powered wearable technology designed to support construction professionals directly in the field.
Introducing FieldAssistFieldAssist is a proposed proprietary AI-powered wearable headset being developed as part of AuditTruss's long-term product vision.
The concept is a compact, lightweight, ear-worn device that allows construction workers to access relevant project information and communicate hands-free through natural voice interaction.
Our vision includes:
- Voice Activation: Hands-free AI interaction using the wake phrase "FieldAssist."
- Noise-Resistant Audio: Microphone technology and noise suppression designed for loud construction environments.
- Indoor Location Awareness: Integration with positioning technologies to identify approximate floors, rooms, and work zones.
- Proactive Assistance: Location-triggered task briefings, project updates, and relevant work-area information.
- AI Integration: Voice-based access to approved drawings, assigned tasks, project information, and field reporting.
- Jobsite-Ready Design: Lightweight, rechargeable hardware designed with durability, comfort, situational awareness, and PPE compatibility in mind.
Our objective is to create wearable technology that makes construction intelligence accessible without adding unnecessary complexity to a worker's day.
About the PositionWe are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Systems & Wearable Hardware Engineer to help lead the design and development of our first FieldAssist physical prototype.
This opportunity is available as either a full-time position or a contract engagement, depending on the candidate's experience, availability, and mutual fit.
The selected candidate will play an important role in establishing the hardware architecture, selecting components, developing embedded functionality, and transforming the FieldAssist concept into a working device.
For candidates interested in long-term involvement, this position may offer the opportunity to help shape AuditTruss's future wearable technology development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of an initial functional FieldAssist headset prototype.
- Evaluate and select microphones, speakers, wireless modules, processors, batteries, and charging components.
- Develop embedded firmware for device operation, connectivity, and power management.
- Implement Bluetooth audio communication with a smartphone or compatible gateway.
- Evaluate wake-word activation, voice processing, and noise suppression technologies.
- Collaborate on custom headset enclosure design, ergonomics, and component placement.
- Research BLE, UWB, and other indoor positioning technologies for future location-aware capabilities.
- Coordinate with our software development team to support AI assistant integration.
- Test microphone performance, connectivity, battery life, comfort, and basic durability.
- Identify technical limitations and recommend engineering improvements.
- Maintain technical documentation, schematics, component specifications, and firmware source code.
- Support future prototype iterations and evaluate manufacturing considerations.
- Proven experience designing and building functional electronic hardware prototypes.
- Strong background in embedded systems engineering and firmware development.
- Experience with Bluetooth connectivity, preferably Bluetooth audio devices.
- Knowledge of microphones, audio electronics, and wireless communication systems.
- Experience developing battery-powered, low-power electronic devices.
- Familiarity with PCB design, electronic component selection, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in embedded programming languages such as C or C++.
- Experience integrating hardware and software systems.
- Ability to independently evaluate engineering challenges and propose practical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience developing wearable electronics, wireless headsets, smart audio devices, or similar hardware.
- Experience with wake-word detection, speech recognition, or audio digital signal processing (DSP).
- Knowledge of microphone arrays, noise cancellation, and voice isolation.
- Familiarity with BLE beacons, UWB, or indoor positioning systems.
- Experience designing compact electronic devices with custom enclosures.
- Knowledge of 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and industrial product design.
- Understanding of FCC requirements, Bluetooth qualification, and hardware manufacturing processes.
- Experience developing devices for industrial, outdoor, or high-noise environments.
- Experience leading hardware development projects from concept through functional prototype.
Phase 1 — Technical Feasibility & Architecture
- Review FieldAssist's proposed functionality and physical design requirements.
- Recommend the appropriate hardware architecture and development approach.
- Identify electronic components and suitable development platforms.
- Evaluate microphone placement, wireless connectivity, power requirements, and headset ergonomics.
- Produce a preliminary component list, estimated prototype budget, and development timeline.
Phase 2 — Functional Physical Prototype
- Develop an initial AuditTruss-branded ear-worn headset prototype.
- Integrate microphones, audio output, Bluetooth connectivity, and rechargeable power.
- Establish communication with an AI assistant through a connected smartphone or gateway.
- Demonstrate basic hands-free voice interaction.
- Evaluate noise suppression and wake-word performance in representative noisy environments.
Phase 3 — Testing & Refinement
