Job Title: Engagement Specialist I – Oncology (Clinical Research)
FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Vice President, Patient Engagement
Job Summary/ Objective:
We are seeking an Engagement specialist in oncology to join our clinical research team. The ideal candidate will have a background in oncology and a strong understanding of clinical research protocols. As an Engagement Specialist - oncology, you will be responsible for screening and prequalifying oncology patients for clinical research studies. You will work closely across the clinical research team to assess patient eligibility, ensuring that all inclusion and exclusion criteria are met prior to enrollment.
Essential Functions:
- Review and assess patient medical records, diagnostic reports, and other relevant data to determine eligibility for clinical trials.
- Communicate directly with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers to obtain additional clinical information, if required.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of screening forms, eligibility checklists, and other study-related materials.
- Educate patients and their families about the clinical trial process, including potential risks, benefits, and study requirements if necessary.
- Coordinate with the clinical research team to ensure the proper scheduling of patient visits, assessments, and tests as required by the clinical trial protocol.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and institutional policies during all aspects of the screening process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient screenings and prequalification status in CTMS.
- Assist in providing updates to the clinical research teams as needed.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- A degree in nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or another relevant healthcare field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in oncology care, clinical research, or related healthcare settings.
- Strong understanding of oncology treatments, clinical trial protocols, and regulatory requirements. *GCP certification a plus.
- Previous experience working in clinical research, especially in oncology, is highly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of oncology, including current treatments, procedures, and patient care.
- Familiarity with clinical research regulations, including GCP, ICH, and FDA guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with multidisciplinary professionals in a professional manner.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and clinical research documentation software.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands:
Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be required to complete job-related tasks outside of that time frame in excess of a standard 40-hour work week. Requires prolonged walking, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Ability to use a computer and office equipment for data entry and communication. Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires occasional lifting of boxes up to 25 pounds. Work is performed in a medical office environment and includes exposure to blood-borne pathogens and bio-hazardous materials.
Travel required: minimal, less than 10%
