Engineering Geologist

Engineering Geologist (Level 5) – Transport & Water | Auckland Help shape the ground understanding behind major Auckland and New Zealand infrastructure projects. In this role, you’ll turn field investigations, geological interpretation and practical ground advice into decisions that support transport, water and urban development projects from early investigation through to delivery. What the role feels like This is a hands-on consulting role for an engineering geologist who enjoys being close to the work, interpreting complex ground conditions, and seeing how that advice shapes real infrastructure outcomes. You’ll be working across varied Auckland ground environments, supporting investigations, developing geological models, contributing to geotechnical assessments and helping project teams understand and manage ground risk. You won’t be working in isolation. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team - working alongside specialists from other industries while being supported by our senior geologists, geotechnical and tunnelling engineers to allow you to take increasing ownership of fieldwork, interpretation, reporting and client-facing conversations. It’s a role for someone ready to move beyond “doing the task” and start building confidence as a trusted technical consultant. What you’ll do Lead site investigations including drilling, CPTs, geophysics, test pits and mapping Coordinate field activities, contractors and factual data collection Interpret ground conditions and develop engineering geological models Work alongside Technical Directors and other senior staff to assess, evaluate and manage ground risk. Work collaboratively with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams Prepare technical reports and contribute to geotechnical assessments Support construction monitoring and design activities Support junior staff and safe project delivery What you’ll bring Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology Around 4–7 years’ experience within engineering geology consulting with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Auckland Strong geomorphic mapping and geological logging capability Experience with GIS, LeapFrog, Rocscience, gINT/OpenGround or similar Engineering geological interpretation and reporting skills Strong communication and collaboration skills Chartered status or working toward chartership viewed favourably Full NZ driver’s licence and strong HSE mindset Ready to bring ideas to life?
