Engineering Lead

About the Role

Lead the AI and technical operations for an education technology platform that uses multimodal AI to analyze handwritten student work and help teachers understand student thinking. You will shape the technical roadmap and expand the product into new subjects and grade levels.

What You'll Do

• Own and improve AI and machine learning systems spanning computer vision, natural language processing, and multimodal analysis.

• Take proof-of-concepts for new subjects, including language arts and science, through production deployment.

• Strengthen evaluation datasets, model monitoring, and performance observability.

• Coordinate with external engineering partners to communicate priorities, maintain technical quality, and keep work aligned.

• Explain technical decisions and roadmap priorities to non-technical leadership and partners.

What We're Looking For

• Four to eight years of experience in AI or machine learning development.

• Hands-on experience building end-to-end AI products, including original model development, dataset creation, experimentation, and deployment. API integration alone is not sufficient.

• Experience deploying in-house models, running inference, and integrating large language models.

• Experience managing external engineering contractors or vendors.

• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and MLOps, with experience using platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Modal.

• Strong communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts and roadmaps to non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience with tools such as Python, FastAPI, Django, React, Datadog, Weights & Biases, Hugging Face, vLLM, and SGLang is relevant.

• Education technology or other social impact sector experience is a plus. Must be able to work US time zones and already have work authorization in the country of residence.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $200,000 to $250,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
