Show job description

Hi! We are Visage Technologies, a Swedish-Croatian company that’s been building amazing things with computer vision and machine learning since 2002. Our technology is the engine behind some of the world’s most recognizable brands – powering over 400 global clients, including Qualcomm, Lufthansa, Coca-Cola, Canon, Deutsche Telekom, BMW, and McDonald’s.

We're now looking for an Engineering Manager for our AI Labs division. AI Labs division is Visage Technologies’ innovation hub, focused on exploring and developing advanced AI technologies that bridge research and real-world applications. From computer vision, generative and agentic AI to autonomy and perception AI, we help clients turn complex challenges into practical solutions.

As our Engineering Manager, you will care for and mentor our talented engineering team, guide project growth, and inspire practical AI innovation across client initiatives.

This role is based in our Zagreb office, where we enjoy collaborating in person through occasional office visits.

What you'll do:

People management

  • Lead, mentor and develop the engineers in your pool through regular 1:1s, career development plans, feedback and performance reviews.
  • Organise and reorganise project teams as client and project needs change, balancing workload, skills and growth opportunities across people.
  • Take part in hiring: define needs, interview candidates and onboard new team members.
  • Build a healthy engineering culture with good practices, knowledge sharing and clear communication.

Projects and delivery quality

  • Act as the final review step before deliverables leave the team. Attend milestone demos, try out PoCs and prototypes, and read research, evaluation and test reports before they are shared externally.
  • Verify results against the agreed acceptance criteria (metrics, test data, evaluation setup) before reporting a project as on track or done.
  • Maintain an accurate picture of every project your people work on: deadlines, but also the technical approach, the quality of results, risks and open questions.
  • Report clearly and in detail to division leadership, and be able to explain the technical background and main risks of any of your projects without the tech lead in the room.
  • Spot problems early, whether in people, process, technical quality or delivery, and act on them.

Planning

  • Work with business development and technical leads on staffing for upcoming projects, effort estimates and resource planning, bringing a realistic view of technical complexity.

This role is a great fit for you if you have:

  • At least 5 years of experience leading engineering teams, with direct responsibility for people management.
  • A solid technical background in software engineering, computer vision, ML or a related field, including at least 3 years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • A working understanding of the ML/CV development lifecycle (data, training, evaluation, deployment).
  • Experience reviewing technical deliverables (reports, demos, prototypes) before they reach clients or management.
  • Experience in a project-based or service/consulting environment, managing several parallel projects and shifting priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to turn technical detail into clear status reports for management and clients.
  • Experience with career development, performance management and difficult conversations.
  • A structured, organised way of working, combined with the flexibility a growing division requires.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in automotive, robotics, medtech or other regulated or safety-critical domains (e.g. familiarity with FuSa / SOTIF).
  • Experience with edge AI or embedded deployment.
  • Interest in multimodal AI and where perception systems are heading.
  • Experience building or scaling a team in a growing organisation.

Why join Visage Technologies?

  • Meaningful work: You'll be working on our own products and services - the kind of projects where you can actually see the impact of your ideas and effort as the company grows.
  • Room to grow: We offer dedicated budgets and time for learning, and a growing company library to feed your curiosity.
  • Fair rewards: We offer a competitive salary along with non-taxable annual bonuses and holiday perks, and regular salary revisions - because great work deserves great recognition.
