Our company description
Mission is a platform for hiring, vetting and managing software development talents. It enables our clients to connect with the world’s best talent to build mission-critical software products.
About the Company
This mid-stage enterprise AI company automates large-scale communications using voice-based agents. Operating in a significantly under-automated market, the organization focuses on deploying production-ready AI solutions for enterprise clients. The engineering department is currently scaling to meet increasing demand, maintaining a culture centered on rapid iteration and high-quality delivery within a remote-first, collaborative environment.
About the Role
As a dedicated Engineering Manager, you will lead and scale a squad of 8–15 engineers while collaborating with a peer management team to drive departmental strategy. This is a people-centric leadership role focused on professional development, performance management, and strategic headcount planning rather than daily technical execution. You will play a critical role in fostering a high-performance culture, ensuring predictable delivery of customer value, and translating complex AI experimentation into scalable production outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Lead end-to-end recruitment, career development, and performance management for a growing engineering squad.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional leadership team to set departmental strategy and manage budget allocations.
- Establish a culture of rapid iteration and continuous learning to accelerate product shipping cycles.
- Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery that aligns with core business goals and customer requirements.
- Translate experimental AI initiatives into consistent team throughput and stable production results.
- Partner with product and design teams to bridge technical feasibility with business objectives.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering management.
- Proven track record managing teams of 8 or more engineers, with a primary focus on people leadership and team health.
- Experience scaling engineering teams within high-growth startup environments or rapid-growth business units.
- Strong technical foundation enabling effective judgment and credibility with senior engineering talent.
- Specific, hands-on experience implementing modern AI tools and models in production.
- Ability to travel approximately every six weeks for in-person team gatherings.
- Residency and work authorization in the US or Canada.
Nice to Haves
- Background as a founder or experience leading 0-to-1 product initiatives.
- Domain expertise in conversational AI, telephony, machine learning, or real-time infrastructure.
- Specialized experience in organizational design, such as developing career ladders or performance calibration frameworks.
- Experience operating effectively in high-candor, "disagree-and-commit" leadership environments.
Compensation & Benefits
- Meaningful stock option grants.
- 100% remote work flexibility.
