Intro
Virtually every Dutch citizen has an insurance policy that runs on ANVA. As the market leader in insurance software, our platform supports more than 21 million policies, 60% of the market's premium volume, and over 10,000 daily users.
With eight development teams, we are building ANVA 6, our new multi-tenant SaaS platform, while simultaneously migrating a large existing customer base. What your teams build will operate at real scale from day one. To support this, we are looking for an Engineering Manager who combines leadership, technical depth, and practical AI expertise.
AI at the Core
AI is central to this role and to the way we work at ANVA. As an AI-first organization, we aim to lead the market in AI adoption. You will help shape how our teams build AI-native software, from AI coding assistants to agents that contribute throughout the entire software development lifecycle. We also expect AI to be an integral part of your daily workflow, and you should be able to demonstrate this during the recruitment process.
Your Impact
You will lead two to three multidisciplinary teams consisting of developers and QA engineers, including external and offshore colleagues. You combine people leadership with technical insight. Your teams are responsible for both building and operating their services in production. The principle of "you build it, you run it" is second nature to you.
You will report to the Head of Engineering, be a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, and work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Security, Cloud Engineering, and our Agile Coach.
What You'll Do
- Act as the formal line manager for the engineers in your teams. Conduct development and performance reviews, set clear expectations, and coach team members on ownership and accountability.
- Ensure your teams deliver predictably and with high quality, while building services that are reliable, scalable, and secure by design.
- Make AI-assisted development the standard within your teams. Introduce AI tooling and agentic workflows in practice, share what works, and discontinue what doesn't.
- Drive flow and quality using data such as WIP, lead time, and DORA metrics. Use those metrics to improve performance, not to judge individuals.
- Continuously improve agile ways of working, CI/CD practices, and the operational maturity of your teams.
- Remove systemic impediments and coordinate dependencies with other teams so that eight teams together build one cohesive platform.
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineers, while considering AI capabilities throughout the hiring and development process.
- Foster an engineering culture where knowledge sharing, feedback, and continuous improvement are part of everyday work.
Your Milestones
- Your teams deliver predictably and independently operate their services in production.
- AI-assisted development becomes a measurable part of your teams' daily workflow, with demonstrable improvements in flow and quality.
- Every engineer on your teams has a clear development plan and receives regular feedback.
- You have made a visible contribution to the migration of existing customers to ANVA 6.
What You Should Know
We are building ANVA 6 while our first customers are already transitioning to it. This means moving at pace, with eight teams building in parallel and ways of working that continue to evolve. Not everything has been fully defined yet. Helping to shape and structure this environment is exactly where you will make the difference.
Who Are You?
- Bachelor's or Master's level working and thinking ability.
- At least five years of experience in software development. You have previously worked as a developer and now enjoy helping others grow.
- At least two years of experience leading engineering teams, including formal people management responsibilities.
- AI is already central to the way you work. You use it daily for analysis, preparation, decision-making, and prototyping, and you are proud to demonstrate what you have built with it.
- You have introduced or accelerated AI-assisted development within a team and can explain both the benefits and the limitations.
- You have a well-founded vision on how AI and autonomous agents are changing roles, code reviews, quality assurance, and security within engineering teams.
- You apply AI responsibly in a regulated financial environment, with strong awareness of security, privacy, and data usage considerations.
- Experience with microservices, containers, and cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
- Experience with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
- Strong communication skills, enabling you to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues, including Product Owners, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms and/or the insurance or financial services sector.
Benefits
- Salary up to € 8.000 gross a month.
- 13th month.
- Holiday allowance.
- 27,5 vacation days per year.
- A premium-free pension, meaning ANVA covers the full pension contribution.
- The option to work from abroad for 4 weeks per calendar year under our digital nomad policy.
- A hybrid way of working.
- A budget of € 750 to set up your home work environment.
- Training and development programs at ANVA’s expense.
- Company-organized events, ranging from karaoke and football tournaments to laser tag.
- Delicious catering which is partially subsidized by ANVA.
