Engineering Manager-FinTech/Mobile Banking

Lead the technology organization supporting Spruce, a customer-focused fintech and mobile banking product. This role is accountable for engineering strategy, delivery, operational excellence, and talent leadership across multiple squads that support multiple product managers and critical business integrations. The Manager will translate business priorities and meaningful customer outcomes into coordinated technology plans, balance competing demands, and ensure teams deliver secure, resilient, high-quality capabilities. The ideal candidate brings experience with fintech applications, native mobile codebases and development practices, and modern AI-enabled software delivery.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Own the technology strategy, delivery roadmap, and desired outcomes for Spruce, aligning squad execution with product priorities, customer needs, business objectives, and architectural direction.
- Lead and coordinate priorities, dependencies, risks, and delivery across multiple engineering squads, product managers, and critical internal and external business integrations.
- Partner as part of the squad trio with Product and Design to shape outcomes, clarify priorities, sequence work, and make informed trade-offs across scope, timing, quality, risk, and capacity.
- Provide hands-on leadership for mobile engineering practices, preferably across native iOS and Android codebases, including sustainable architecture, development standards, release readiness, quality, observability, and operational support.
- Ensure reliable delivery of secure, resilient, compliant, and high-quality fintech experiences while maintaining day-to-day production stability and customer service continuity.
- Monitor and mitigate product, program, integration, vendor, security, compliance, and operational execution risks; establish clear ownership and escalation paths for critical issues.
- Create transparency through outcome-based plans, delivery health reporting, dependency management, and concise communication with product, business, technology, and senior leadership stakeholders.
- Build strong partnerships with business leaders, architecture, cybersecurity, compliance, operations, data, marketing, customer service, vendors, and other technology teams supporting the Spruce ecosystem.
- Lead, coach, and develop engineers and technical leaders; set clear expectations, provide actionable feedback, recognize performance, and create growth opportunities.
- Maintain succession plans and make thoughtful resourcing decisions based on the skills and capacity required to deliver the most meaningful customer outcomes.
- Attract, retain, and grow diverse technical talent while fostering accountability, collaboration, inclusion, continuous learning, and strong engineering ownership.
- Apply AI in day-to-day leadership and delivery practices, including agentic development approaches and responsible use of AI across discovery, product and design collaboration, engineering, testing, documentation, operations, and continuous improvement.
- Establish practical AI-enabled working agreements for the squad trio and engineering teams, with appropriate attention to security, privacy, compliance, human review, quality, and measurable value.
- Manage budgets, vendors, contracts, and service performance as applicable, ensuring investments and capacity remain aligned with Spruce priorities and expected outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of progressive experience in technology, software engineering, product delivery, consulting, or a related field, including experience leading complex, mission-critical initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-powered tools and agentic development practices to improve team productivity, software delivery, product discovery, and operational efficiency. Proven ability to lead teams in the responsible adoption of AI, establish effective AI-enabled working practices, and balance innovation with appropriate security, compliance, quality, and governance controls
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, talent development, succession planning, workforce planning, and resourcing across multiple teams.
- Experience managing priorities and programs across multiple squads, product managers, stakeholders, and interdependent technology or business integrations.
- Experience delivering customer-facing digital products in a regulated, high-availability, or financially sensitive environment.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering and product development practices, including agile delivery, DevSecOps, automated testing, observability, reliability, and production support.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage ambiguity, resolve cross-team dependencies, make trade-offs, and deliver outcomes with quality and accountability.
- Experience partnering with Product and Design in a squad trio model to connect customer insights and business priorities with feasible technology solutions.
- Practical experience using AI to improve day-to-day productivity and software delivery, with an understanding of agentic development workflows and responsible AI controls.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate technical and business decisions to a wide range of audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading teams that develop and operate mobile native applications, particularly iOS/Swift and Android/Kotlin codebases.
- Experience with fintech, digital banking, payments, lending, savings, card, or other regulated financial applications.
- Experience managing integrations with financial technology platforms, processors, vendors, APIs, and enterprise capabilities.
- Experience introducing AI-assisted and agentic development practices at team scale and measuring improvements in quality, flow, speed, or customer outcomes.
- Experience leading modernization of mobile platforms, engineering practices, or complex customer-facing technology ecosystems.
- Experience managing program budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, and service levels.
