About the Client

Our client is a growing eCommerce business focused on technology, customer experience and commercial growth. The D2C domain is one of its most customer-facing and commercially important areas.

Role Overview

We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the D2C domain, covering the eCommerce storefront, mobile app, catalogue, inventory, pricing and orders.

You'll lead two cross-functional squads, working with Product, Architecture and senior stakeholders. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role offers significant ownership across people, technology and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead two cross-functional engineering squads across frontend, backend, mobile and QA.
• Define and deliver a 6-12 month engineering strategy aligned with commercial goals.
• Partner with Product and business stakeholders on engineering priorities.
• Balance feature delivery, reliability, technical debt and engineering quality.
• Work with Pricing, Data Platform, Supply and DevOps teams.
• Coach engineers and technical leaders and build high-performing teams.
• Own performance, development and senior hiring.
• Improve observability, reliability, SLOs, testing and incident response.
• Drive outcomes across conversion, checkout and service performance.
• Oversee Shopify, middleware, mobile and third-party integrations.
• Partner with Staff Engineers and Architecture on technical direction.
• Drive AI-first engineering practices and tooling.

Required Experience

• 5+ years' experience as an Engineering Manager, ideally across multiple squads.
• Experience with eCommerce, B2C, consumer digital products or web/mobile platforms.
• Understanding of customer experience, conversion and growth metrics.
• Proven ability to deliver strategy and outcomes across 6-12 months.
• Strong people leadership and team development experience.
• Ability to build autonomous, high-performing teams.
• Commercially minded with strong senior/C-level communication skills.
• Experience with Shopify or equivalent eCommerce platforms and large-scale integrations.
• Strong technical credibility across architecture and engineering quality.
• Experience leading AI-first engineering adoption.

• Engineering transformation or AI adoption experience.
• Experience managing or mentoring Engineering Managers.
• Shopify Plus, headless or composable commerce.
• Kafka/Pulsar, microservices or event-driven architecture.
• Native iOS/Android environments.
• Observability, SLOs and engineering maturity.
