Job Summary
The Engineering Project Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of healthcare and commercial engineering projects through construction administration, field coordination, project delivery, and technical support activities.
This position serves as a liaison between engineering teams, project managers, contractors, clients, and field personnel throughout design and construction. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of construction processes, project execution, and contractor coordination, with the ability to contribute practical field knowledge that enhances project delivery and constructability.
The Engineering Project Coordinator supports projects from planning through closeout while developing increasing technical knowledge of building systems, engineering design processes, and consulting engineering practices.
Responsibilities
Construction Administration & Project Delivery
- Lead and coordinate construction administration activities for assigned projects.
- Lead assigned construction administration meetings and coordination activities within the defined project scope.
- Communicate project requirements and follow-up actions clearly to contractors, consultants, clients, and internal team members.
- Provide day-to-day coordination and direction for assigned CA activities while escalating design decisions and contractual issues to the Project Manager or Engineer of Record.
- Attend project meetings, site visits, pre-construction conferences, and owner coordination meetings.
- Track and facilitate the review of RFIs, submittals, change requests, and construction issues.
- Review project documentation for completeness and coordinate responses with engineers and project managers.
- Monitor construction progress and communicate project status updates to project teams.
- Document project activities through field reports, meeting minutes, and project logs.
- Support project closeout activities including punch lists, record documents, training materials, and final project documentation.
- Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and coordination issues and elevate recommendations to project teams.
- Support coordination with HCAI, local building officials, inspectors, utilities, and other authorities having jurisdiction.
- Participate in agency and field meetings and assist with presenting project issues, proposed resolutions, and required follow-up items.
- Coordinate with the Engineer of Record before communicating technical direction or design interpretations.
Technical & Constructability Support
- Provide constructability input based on field experience and knowledge of construction practices.
- Participate in field investigations, site assessments, and existing-condition documentation.
- Assist engineering teams with technical coordination, drawing reviews, and project documentation.
- Support specification reviews, equipment coordination, and project implementation activities.
- Identify field conditions and installation challenges that may impact project design or execution.
- Assist with quality assurance and quality control reviews during project delivery.
Project Management Support
- Assist project managers with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
- Support project financial administration activities including change orders, invoicing support, and project reporting.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and action items.
- Maintain project records and document control systems.
- Support pursuit activities, proposal preparation, and project planning efforts when needed.
Professional Development
- Develop knowledge of electrical engineering systems, building codes, and industry standards.
- Build proficiency in design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) and other project delivery technologies.
- Expand technical capabilities through mentoring, project experience, and continuing education.
- Perform additional project delivery and technical support responsibilities as assigned.
- Perform drawing revisions and project-document updates under the direction of the Engineer of Record or Project Manager.
- Develop familiarity with electrical power, lighting, low-voltage, and emergency power systems.
- Develop working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, specifications, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Assist with technical evaluations and minor design assignments under the supervision of qualified engineering staff.
- Participate in technical training and pursue relevant professional credentials as mutually agreed upon.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Associate degree, technical certification, construction management background, relevant trade experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in construction administration, project coordination, electrical construction, project engineering, project management, or related industry experience.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, documentation, and project delivery methods.
- Experience coordinating RFIs, submittals, change orders, project documentation, and contractor communications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred
- Experience supporting healthcare, mission-critical, or complex commercial construction projects.
- Experience working with consulting engineering firms, electrical contractors, or multidisciplinary project teams.
- Familiarity with electrical systems and building infrastructure.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, or related project delivery software.
- Understanding of construction scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
- Interest in developing technical engineering and design knowledge.
Position Schedule
For training purposes, this position will require office attendance in Tustin California for the first 6 weeks with a hybrid schedule after that.
First Six Weeks (Training Period)
- Monday through Thursday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM (Flexible)
Ongoing Schedule
- Monday through Wednesday: 5:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Monday/Wednesday staff meeting attendance from 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM (online)
- Thursday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Flexible)
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM (Flexible)
The ongoing schedule is subject to supervisor approval and may be adjusted based on project assignments, client requirements, field activities, training needs, team coordination, and business demands. Flexible days may involve work from the office, home, or project sites, depending on project needs.

Travel
Travel up to 50% for healthcare, commercial, and other project sites may be required to support field investigations, construction observations, project meetings, punch walks, agency coordination, and project closeout activities. Travel requirements will vary based on assigned projects.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $110,000 -$120,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
