Engineering Supervisor - Plant SCADA

Ulteig and its affiliated companies are hiring an Engineering Supervisor (ES) position within the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) department. This role will focus on leading a subset of the team's engineers and technicians who provide plant SCADA, integration, and networking solutions. The Engineering Supervisor fosters on-the-job leadership development and allows for additional and efficient team growth while supporting projects.

What You’ll Do
This individual will report directly to an AISP Technical Manager, interacting closely with other corporate business units such as sales, marketing, account management and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management.
Project Technical Lead - 70%
- Manages and leads engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of projects that are assigned.
- Provides project oversight, including managing scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
- Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and the Project Management group on a project of significant scope or a combination of large projects.
- Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
- Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, and takes formal technical oversight and accountability.
- Provides technical review and oversight of engineering issues raised by project team members.
- Reviews and approves design packages, SDDs, Master I/O Lists, PCNs, and IFC deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Identifies technical risks and develops mitigation strategies to support successful project execution.
- Reviews project dashboards, priorities, and performance indicators to maintain alignment with project objectives and company expectations.
- Monitors schedule impacts, upcoming FAT/SAT activities, and commissioning milestones to support timely project delivery.
- Reviews and verifies action items resulting from customer meetings to ensure appropriate follow-through and accountability.
- Guides engineers on applicable standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
Management Responsibilities – 20%
- Provides strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
- Coaches, trains, and develops technical staff for growth and development opportunities.
- Facilitates weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum) and actively manages team resource planning
- Performs individual performance reviews, training and professional development for team members.
- Verifies billable assignments and resource allocations to support project staffing requirements and organizational utilization goals.
- Reviews upcoming workload gaps and resource demands to proactively address staffing needs and maintain project continuity.
- Balances resources across projects to optimize utilization, support project priorities, and meet client commitments.
- Coordinates delegation opportunities to support employee development, workload distribution, and successful project execution.
- Manages direct reports by providing leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and support for professional development in alignment with company objectives.
Business Development Responsibilities – 10%
- Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
- Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management group, and other departments.
- Maintains positive client relationships with existing clients.
- Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field of study.
- 7+ years of experience in plant SCADA/integrator or Network design/integration preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with Ignition SCADA is preferred; Ignition Gold Certification is a plus. Experience with other SCADA or DCS platforms will also be considered.
- Fundamentals of Engineering certification, Professional Engineering license, or willingness to pursue professional licensure is desired.
- Experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, Serial, DNP3, OPC -UA, DA.
- Demonstrates proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics to support design, troubleshooting, and project execution activities.
- USA Fundamental of Engineering, Professional Engineering License, or willingness to pursue a license.
- Knowledge of NERC standards or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge of plant SCADA, integration, and network is a plus.
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
- Strong analytical and information management skills.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, the public, and external agencies.
- High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
- Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
- Ability to get an L1 Visa for the USA.
- Must be able to travel 25% of the year.
- Ability to work in a hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
- Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.
- Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
