Role Description The English Second Language Tutor role at Upskills is a contract position based in Blenheim with a hybrid working model, allowing a combination of on-site workplace delivery and some work-from-home online sessions. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering English language lessons for adult learners, both face-to-face and online, aligned with Upskills’ workplace-focused training frameworks. The tutor will assess learner needs, design engaging and culturally responsive learning activities, and provide ongoing feedback and support to help learners build confidence and practical communication skills. Additional tasks include maintaining accurate learner records, collaborating with Upskills staff and client organizations, and contributing to continuous improvement of training materials and approaches. The role requires flexibility in scheduling to meet workplace training needs and a commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong English Teaching and general Teaching skills, with experience adapting content for diverse adult learners.
• Candidates should possess Teaching English as a Foreign Language skills, including familiarity with ESL/EFL methodologies and language acquisition principles.
• Candidates should possess Tutoring and Online Tutoring skills, with the ability to facilitate engaging sessions both in-person and via digital platforms.
• Candidates should possess effective communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills, and be able to build trust with learners from varied cultural and workplace backgrounds.
• Relevant teaching qualifications (e.g., TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, or equivalent) and experience in workplace or adult education environments are highly beneficial.
• Ability to design learner-centered, strengths-based materials, use online learning tools confidently, and travel to workplaces in the Blenheim area as required.
