English with Stories combines entertaining stories, graded readers, mini-stories, interactive games, vocabulary tools, role-play and AI-assisted learning. The platform is intended for the general public. Some pilots also include older teenagers, adults facing barriers to education and seniors. ICEO focuses on practical, story-driven learning rather than traditional textbook-style study. Volunteers can contribute remotely from anywhere.

ICEO z. s. is a Czech nonprofit developing accessible and engaging ways to learn English online. Our main project, Anglicky s příběhy (“English with Stories”), is a free English-learning platform built around short stories, graded readers, mini-stories, games and AI-supported activities.
This is an unpaid volunteer role. It is fully remote, flexible and open to applicants worldwide. THANK YOU!
We are looking for volunteers with excellent written English and a strong feel for natural language, storytelling and how people learn English.
The role is mainly about reviewing English-learning stories and related content. You may work with short stories, graded readers, dialogue, role-play scenarios, quizzes, learner instructions or other parts of the platform.
Our content ranges approximately from A1 to B2. Different levels bring different challenges beginner stories are shorter but require very careful control of simple vocabulary and grammar, while higher-level stories allow more complexity but still need to remain appropriate for the intended learner.
This is more than proofreading.
We want you to read each story as a complete sequence of events and help us check
You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before flagging it. If a sentence, relationship, joke or event makes you pause or takes extra effort to understand, that is useful feedback.
At the same time, there is no need to rewrite something simply because you would personally phrase it differently. Some stories may need very few changes. We want thoughtful feedback, not changes for the sake of changes.
We also try to preserve humour, personality and natural storytelling. The goal is to find the right balance between clarity, CEFR level and enjoyable storytelling.
If you enjoy creative writing, ideas for new stories, continuations or alternative scenarios are also welcome, although completely optional.
There are no recurring meetings, no need to be continuously online and no fixed weekly-hours commitment. We usually share content through Google Drive and you can review it gradually at your own pace.
Tasks vary in size. A short story may be around 300–500 words, with beginner stories often being even shorter. We also have graded readers of around 10,000–20,000 words, which can be reviewed gradually, chapter by chapter.
You do not need to work with every type of content. Some volunteers may prefer short A1/A2 stories, while others may enjoy B1/B2 material or longer graded readers.
You should have excellent written English and a strong sense of natural usage. Native-level English is welcome, but native-speaker status or any particular nationality is not required. C1/C2 or equivalent real-world proficiency is a good guide.
Experience in ESL/EFL teaching, editing, writing, storytelling or language learning is useful, but not required. What matters most is careful reading, reliability, curiosity and constructive feedback.
Apply through Idealist and briefly answer the screening questions. A CV is not required.
If we think the role may be a good fit, we will start by sharing a small first batch together with detailed review instructions and examples. This gives you a chance to see how the process works before deciding whether you would like to continue.

We want you to read each story as a complete sequence of events and help us check
- whether the English sounds natural;
- whether grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure match the intended CEFR level;
- whether dialogue is clear and easy to follow;
- whether events make sense from cause to effect;
- whether characters, objects, times and locations remain consistent;
- whether character behaviour and situations feel believable;
- whether important details and relationships are clear;
- whether there are plot holes, confusing moments or unfinished threads;
- and whether the story is enjoyable and easy for a learner to follow.
